The Rebbe's guidance on spreading Chassidus — "spreading the wellsprings outward" (hafatzas hamaayanos):
Why it matters now. Spreading Chassidus everywhere is essential preparation for Moshiach's coming (IK 815, 1292, 3343, 4552), and learning the inner dimension of Torah hastens the redemption while neglecting it delays it (IK 3682). It helps remove obstacles to accepting Torah and mitzvos fully (IK 3710), and even observant Jews who lack it need it (IK 1418).
Everyone's task. Spreading Chassidus is a core duty of every chassid — learning it is not enough (IK 4681, 6784) — and those with greater reach and influence bear greater responsibility (IK 7124). Whoever has a unique ability in spreading Chassidus should make it his priority (IK 6186). Youth should dedicate their energy to it (IK 4623), and parents should encourage children to spread it wherever they are (IK 7981). Moving to a new place is an opportunity to spread Chassidus beyond one's home to the whole city (IK 3617). When two Jews meet in a Torah way, they should share that light with others (IK 3626).
How to spread it. Reach even those farthest away, while preserving Chassidus' living essence (IK 1262). Go out to those who hesitate (IK 3958), and bring new people to farbrengens beyond familiar circles (IK 3866). Share it in every language Jews understand (IK 2751), in simple, accessible language (IK 6256), and through literature and positive articles for diverse audiences (IK 3641, 4689). Share teachings widely, without excessive stringency (IK 3165). Represent Chassidus with proper speech and conduct, since even small missteps undermine the mission (IK 6968). Words must lead to real change and action (IK 5035, 4331).
Special times. Yud-Tes Kislev, Chanukah, Pesach, Lag BaOmer and Shavuos, Elul and even Bein HaMetzarim are times to increase spreading Chassidus (IK 820, 1261, 2565, 3116, 4973, 6950, 6993, 7322).
