Shalom u'Vrachah!

After a long break, your letter was received after Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh.

Regarding what you wrote about various reasons that led to the cancellation of several classes you had with other students—It is already known the saying: What use are excuses when the matter itself is lacking? It is known that even in a case of absolute compulsion where the Torah rules "Ones Rachmana Patrei" (the Merciful One exempts one under duress), we do not say it is as if he acted; therefore, there is no spreading of the wellsprings—and even less than spreading.

May it be G‑d's will that among all of Anash everyone should recognize the importance of spreading (Chassidus), for this is for the benefit of each individual who spreads (even though he also benefits others). Therefore, one should act in this as one does for his own benefit. As explained during the farbrengen and in jest about our upside-down world—even more so than what is discussed in Chassidus regarding "Kirvas Elokim Tov" (Closeness to G‑d is good) versus "Kirvas Elokim Li Tov" (Closeness to G‑d is good for me)—now it is completely reversed: One learns, understands, comprehends, and can even explain to someone younger how Kirvas Elokim Tov (Closeness to G‑d is good), but does not connect it personally—that he too is included in this and Kirvas Elokim Li Tov (Closeness to G‑d is good for him). If only people would begin with this explanation (even though it seems a lower level), surely the promise of our Sages would be fulfilled: "Mitoch shelo lishma ba lishma" (from acting not for its own sake one comes to act for its own sake).

It is understood that my intention is certainly not to preach or give rebuke—on the contrary, I reject any discouragement etc.—but only to express my astonishment at Anash who are slowly evading even matters of hafatzah (spreading), along with evading activities related to Chabad institutions and even public Torah study. If only I would hear good news that the situation has turned for the better—good for Heaven, good for people, and good that produces fruit.

Blessings for health and good news in all mentioned above.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that excuses do not absolve us from our duty to spread Chassidus. True benefit comes when we take personal responsibility and actively engage in sharing Torah with others—this brings goodness both to ourselves and those around us.
