...בודאי מתעסק בציווי השעה - הפצת המעינות חוצה, נוסף על משרתו בקדש שגם היא תוכנה הוא, ולפלא שאין מודיע כלל מפעולות כמו אלו. והרי רואים במוחש אשר הסדר דהצנע לכת בכגון דא - מביא להמעטת הפעולות, ואפילו את"ל שטובה היא בעבודת האדם לעצמו כיון שעי"ז נתמעט החשש לישות והכרת עצמו, במה נחשבה טובת הפרט בזה - לעומת התועלת שאפשר להביא לרבים על ידי הפצת המעינות, וק"ל.
וי"ל שגם ע"ז נאמר אל תצדק הרבה.

...Certainly you are involved in the imperative of the hour—spreading the wellsprings outward—in addition to your sacred position, which itself has this content. It is surprising that you do not report at all about such activities. In fact, it is clearly seen that the approach of walking modestly in such matters leads to a reduction of these activities. Even if one would say that this is beneficial for a person's own service, since it lessens the risk of ego and self-recognition—what is the value of this personal benefit compared to the advantage that can be brought to many through spreading the wellsprings? It is understood. And it may be said that even regarding this it is written: 'Do not be overly righteous.'
