במענה על מכתבו מי"ט חשון והמוסגר בו.
כבקשתו יזכירוהו ואת כל ב"ב שיחיו בעת רצון על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לשנת הצלחה, שאחד הענינים בזה הוא שגם כל יומא ויומא עביד עבידתי', עבידתי' של יום המתאים ועבידתי' של האדם מיוחד זה, שאין היכולת - ובמילא גם הנדרש העבידתי' - של כאו"א שוין.
בטח ידוע לו פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, ומועתק גם בלוח היום יום, אשר ככל גודל ערך ענין אפיית לחם, אשר לחם לבב אנוש (אפילו אָנוש) יסעד, הנה הרי מי שביכולתו להיות נוקב מרגליות ואב"ט, אינו יוצא כלל ידי חובתו ע"י העסק באפיית לחם.
וכתב זה במכתב לאחד מהתמימים, מענה על שהודיעו שקבע שיעורים בנגלה כו' וכו'.
ומזה פשוטה ההוראה לכאו"א מאתנו וגם הוא בכלל, אשר ככל שיעריכו הערכה אמיתית עבודתו בהחזקת היהדות בכלל, אינו יוצא בה ידי חובתו כלל וכלל, כיון שזכה להתגדל בבית חסידותי דחסידות חב"ד, וגם טעם במדה ידועה ואולי גם במדה חשובה מתורת חסידות זו הדרכותי' ומנהגי' אשר מהיסודות שלה הם הפצת (דוקא) המעיינות חוצה (דוקא), וכבר ידועה שיטת חסידות חב"ד, שכל ענין צריך להעשות באופן שיוקלט בפנימיות, וברובא דרובא בקראי הנכתב על ידו במכ"ע, עדיין לא מצאתי שמתעסק הוא במילוי תפקידו הפנימי והנפשי הנ"ל.
מובן שאין כוונתי בדוקא שינצל המכ"ע בכיוון זה, כי הרבה דרכים לעבודה זו, ועל האדם העובד לבחור בדרך הכי יעילה ובת קיימא, ורצוני בהנ"ל רק לאמר שלא שמעתי שמנצל כשרונותיו באופנים אחרים, וגם במאמריו הנ"ל לא נצלו לע"ע בהפצת המעיינות חוצה, ומובטחני שבהתבוננות אפילו קלה ימצא כמה אופנים לפעול בכשרונותיו דוקא בענין זה, וע"ד דרשת רז"ל כבד את ה' מהונך אל תקרי מהונך אלא מחונך, ממה שחוננך.
ויה"ר שיתבונן בזה בהקדם, ובמילא יתחיל בזה בהקדם ויהי' בהצלחה, ובמדתו של הקב"ה שהיא מדה כנגד מדה יוסיף זה בקבלתם הוא וזוגתו שיחיו רוב נחת חסידותי מכל יו"ח וגם מעצמם.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 19th of Cheshvan and its enclosure. As you requested, you and your entire family will be mentioned at an auspicious time at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, for a year of success. One aspect of this is that every day has its own unique service, as does each individual; not everyone has the same abilities—and therefore not the same required service.
You surely know the saying of my revered father-in-law, also quoted in Hayom Yom: No matter how great the value of baking bread—which sustains even a person in dire need—someone capable of being a pearl driller or an expert is not fulfilling his duty by baking bread. He wrote this in a letter to one of the temimim as a response when he was informed that he had established regular Torah study sessions in Nigleh and so on.
The lesson from this is clear to each one of us—including yourself—that no matter how much one values his work in supporting Judaism generally, it does not fulfill his obligation at all and entirely. This is because you merited to grow up in a Chabad chassidic home and have tasted—perhaps even significantly—from its teachings and customs. Among its foundations is specifically spreading the wellsprings outward. It is well known that Chabad’s approach is that everything must penetrate inwardly. In most of what I have seen written by you in newspapers, I have yet to find engagement with this inner and soulful mission.
Of course, I do not mean that you must use newspapers specifically for this purpose; there are many ways to accomplish this work. The person serving must choose the most effective and lasting way. My intent above is only to say that I have not heard that you utilize your talents in other ways either—and even in your aforementioned articles they have not yet been used for spreading the wellsprings outward. I am confident that with even slight contemplation you will find several ways to apply your talents specifically to this matter—as our Sages expound: "Honor Hashem with your wealth (mehonecha)—do not read 'your wealth' but 'your talents' (mechonecha), from what you have been endowed."
May it be G‑d’s will that you contemplate this soon and therefore begin acting on it soon—and may it be with success. In G‑d’s measure—measure for measure—this will increase for you and your wife abundant chassidic nachas from all your children and from yourselves.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one should use their unique talents for spreading Chassidus and strengthening Yidishkeit—not settling for minimal or generic contributions but seeking deeper impact according to their capabilities.
