איך לייג דא ביי דעם קונטרס וואס איז ערשט ערשינען צו חג הגאולה י"ב תמוז הבע"ל, און איך בין זיכער, אז אחוץ דעם וואס איר וועט עס אליין לערנען, וועט איר אויך מזכה זיין מיט עם א סך אנדערע. וזכות הרבים תלוי בו.
עס איז נאך שווער צו שרייבן וועגן דער הסתלקות פון רבי'ן, כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ. אבער מען מוז אלעמאל געדיינקען וועגן דער פארגרעסערטער אחריות, וואס דאס האט ארויפגעלייגט אויף יעדערן פון אונז, ובפרט אויף די וואס האבן זוכה געווען צו זען עם מערערע מאל און וואס האבן זוכה געווען אז ער זאל זיי זען מערערע מאל און געטראכט וועגן זיי א סך מאל.
און אט די מענטשן דארף דער זכרון בא זיי ארויסרופן א התגברות פון זייערע רוחניות'דיקע כחות ביתר שאת ויתר עז ובפרט אויף צו זיין א מעביר על מדותיו, אפילו אויב מען רעכנט אז מ'איז אינגאנצן גערעכט, ווי דער רבי שרייבט אין דעם מאמר פון שבת תשובה ה'שי"ת (קונטרס ע').
מ'דארף אלעמאל געדיינקען, אז מען איז דעם רבינ'ס מענטשן, און שטעלן זיך אליין די פראגע: איז דער רבי צופרידן מיט מיר וואס איך טו אזוי? האב איך גענוג אתכפיא און אתהפכא ווי עס פאסט פאר דעם רבי'נס א מענטש?
... און אויב כהנים זיינען קפדנים - זיינען זיי דאך אבער אייניקלעך פון אהרן הכהן, וואס זיין ענין איז געווען אוהב שלום ורודף שלום. ובפרט כהנים תלמידים פון רבי'ן, כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, וועלכער האט תמיד געפאדערט אהבת ישראל און זען אין דעם צווייטן נאר זיינע מעלות (זעט אויך דעם בייגעגלייגטן קונטרס בשיחה).
איך רעכן, אז עס איז ניט נויטיק מאריך צו זיין אין דעם און בקרוב וועל איך האבן א ידיעה אז עס איז שלום ביי אייך ובכל הפרטים.

I am enclosing here the Kuntras that has just been published for the upcoming festival of redemption, Yud-Beis Tammuz. I am certain that besides studying it yourself, you will also merit many others with it. The merit of the public depends on him.
It is still difficult to write about the passing of our Rebbe, my father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe hk"m. But we must always remember the increased responsibility this has placed upon each of us—especially those who merited to see him many times and whom he saw and thought about many times. For these people, his memory should arouse a strengthening of their spiritual powers with extra vigor and energy—especially to overcome their own traits even if they believe they are entirely correct, as the Rebbe writes in his discourse from Shabbat Teshuvah Hash-yit (Kuntras Ayin).
One must always remember that we are the Rebbe's people and ask oneself: Is the Rebbe satisfied with what I am doing? Have I practiced enough iskafya (self-restraint) and is'hapcha (transformation), as befits a person of the Rebbe?
And if kohanim are known to be exacting—still they are descendants of Aharon HaKohen whose essence was loving peace and pursuing peace. Especially kohanim who are students of our Rebbe, my father-in-law hk"m, who always demanded Ahavas Yisrael and seeing only another's virtues (see also the attached Kuntras in his talk).
I think there is no need to elaborate further on this; soon I hope to hear that there is peace by you in all respects.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that after a leader's passing our responsibility increases—to spread Torah works widely and strengthen Ahavas Yisrael by focusing on others' virtues and overcoming personal traits for unity and peace.
