Expectation of Continued Activity After Marriage

The Rebbe writes that even after marriage, one should not let new responsibilities interfere with Torah study and communal activities, especially spreading Chassidus and involvement in youth organizations. He encourages reporting on these activities and maintaining diligence.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

It is a great wonder and amazement that since your wedding there has been no news from you, even though I strongly hope that you are fulfilling the daily command to be engaged in your work each day, especially within the framework of spreading the wellsprings outward and within the activities of Tzeirei Agudas Chabad. Certainly you will write in detail about all the above, as well as how the days of your wedding and the seven days of celebration passed.

Even though one might say that the days before the wedding, like those of the wedding and after it, bring additional distractions, it is understood that a rational person should not—and cannot—allow these distractions to prevent him from carrying out the aforementioned activities or even from reporting about them; on the contrary. And this is clear.

See also Hilchos Talmud Torah by our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe, chapter 3, for even after marriage one can study for two or three years without great distraction, etc.

With blessing.

Due to the sanctity of the festival, my honored teacher and master did not sign this letter personally; I am signing on his behalf. A. Kuintz, secretary

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that marriage should not diminish one's commitment to Torah study or communal involvement. Even with new responsibilities, one must continue spreading Chassidus and remain diligent in personal growth and reporting on one's activities.
