Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we come from a day of segulah (auspiciousness), may it be G‑d's will that all the blessings associated with this special day be drawn down in actuality, in both your personal and communal matters alike—especially since, according to Chassidus, these are connected and united until they become as one.
If you wish to say so, this idea is already hinted at by our Sages in their teachings: "Therefore man was created alone to teach you... whoever sustains one Jewish soul is considered as if he sustained an entire world" (Sanhedrin 37a). As is well known regarding the precise language used by our Sages, we see in this statement a great innovation—even though many do not pay attention to it despite its simplicity—which is that this teaching negates a common misconception based on human lowliness, especially in recent generations. Even though it is true that 'the earlier ones were like angels and we are...' nevertheless, the Mishnah says that even for later generations, one Jewish soul is an entire world. For this reason alone was Adam created as a single individual; as expressed: "Therefore man was created alone"—meaning his creation should have been otherwise (like other creatures who were created in pairs), but his creation was changed for the sake of teaching the importance of a single soul throughout all generations.
With thanks I acknowledge receipt of your letter. It is understood and obvious that I am interested in seeing and reading what has recently been published from your writings. I thank you in advance for instructing those who fulfill your wishes—as you wrote in your letter—to send them here.
And from one good day to another—from 9 Kislev to the days of Chanukah—may it be His will that all blessings and segulos be ever-increasing and illuminating, as taught by the Chanukah candles. Moreover, may it be at one's doorway facing outward to illuminate even the darkness outside, until fulfilling the prophecy that He will bring great salvation to His people Israel and ultimate redemption through Moshiach Tzidkeinu; as stated by the great teacher (end of Hilchos Melachim): He will build the Beis HaMikdash in its place and gather in the dispersed of Israel; then they will kindle lights in Your holy courtyards... to give thanks and praise to Your great Name.
With esteem and honor and with blessings for an illuminating Chanukah,
M. Schneersohn
P.S. It is understood that your notification—and its comment and illumination—brought much satisfaction up until now regarding further correspondence for my revered father-in-law z"l. For some time now they have begun making an index from his scattered discourses found in various booklets—some still unpublished or printed with many changes. Especially among the shorter discourses (in quantity though full of much content), my initial impression is that there are hidden treasures among them which have not yet seen print. In the well-known style: May it be G‑d's will that soon also through these words "your wellsprings shall spread outward."
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that every Jewish soul holds infinite value—each person is a complete world—and encourages spreading Chassidus ever more widely so its light reaches even into darkness, just as Chanukah lights shine outward.
