לאחרי שתיקתו הכי ארוכה נתקבל מכתבו מי"א טבת עם המוסגר בו, וכבקשתו מוסג"פ הקבלות. ולפלא מה שאינו מזכיר דבר בהנוגע לפעולות בהפצת המעיינות חוצה, כי הרי זה צו השעה, וכידוע אגרת הקדש הבעש"ט אשר עי"ז קאתי מר. ואם כן הוא בהנוגע לכל אלו השייכים לתורת הבעש"ט, עאכו"כ לתלמידי תומכי תמימים אשר את כאו"א מהם קרא מייסד תו"ת כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע בשם נרות להאיר.
ויה"ר שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא, אם אפילו לא יודיע ע"ד פעולות מעין אלו, עכ"פ לא יהי' חסרון כלל בהנוגע למעשה, וכבר ידוע פסק בי"ד של מעלה, אשר בגלל מסירות נפשו (של רבנו הזקן) על תורת החסידות, הנה פסקו בבי"ד של מעלה אשר בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות, תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה.
בברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור מתוך בריאות הנכונה בגו"ר.

After your longest silence, your letter from the 11th of Tevet was received with its enclosure, and as you requested, receipts are enclosed herewith.
It is surprising that you do not mention anything regarding activities in spreading the wellsprings outward, for this is the call of the hour. As is known from the holy letter of the Baal Shem Tov, through this will come Mashiach. If this applies to all those connected to the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, how much more so to students of Tomchei Temimim, each of whom was called by its founder, our Rebbe (the Rebbe Rashab) of blessed memory, "candles to illuminate."
May it be G‑d's will that at least from now on—even if you do not report such activities—there should be no lack at all in actual deed. It is already known from the ruling of the Heavenly Court that because of our Rebbe (the Alter Rebbe)'s self-sacrifice for Chassidus, it was decreed in Heaven that in every matter of Torah, fear of Heaven, and good character traits, his followers and those who walk in his path will prevail.
Blessings for good news in all mentioned above with proper health for good and revealed good.
Summary
The Rebbe urges not only involvement but also communication about one's efforts in spreading Chassidus. Even if one does not report these actions, what matters most is active participation and dedication to illuminating others with Torah and Chassidus.
