בעתו קבלתי מכתבו, בו מבקש איזה הוראה בנוגע להנהגתו באה"ק ת"ו במחנו אשר כולם אנשים פשוטים פליטים ממקומות שונים... הנה זה מכבר אמרתי שכיון שנמצאים אנו בעקבתא דעקבתא דמשיחא הרי יש על כל אחד להשתדל בעבודת ההכנה לביאת משיח ע"פ המאמר שלו להבעש"ט שיהי' זה כאשר יפוצו מעיינותיך חוצה, ועתה עבודה זו מוטלת על כאו"א מאלו שזכו לאור תורת החסידות וכיון שכפי מכתבו במחנו כולם אנשים פשוטים הרי יש בשבילו כר נרחב לעבודה הנ"ל, וידוע החילוק ונתבאר ג"כ בשיחות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אשר בימים הקדמונים ובתורת הנגלה הי' הסדר שהיו המשפיעים מחכים עד שיבוא המקבל לקבל, והבעש"ט הנהיג וכן עשו כמה מתלמידיו ותלמידי תלמידיו אחריו שיהי' המשפיע הולך אל המקבל, וכן הוא גם בנוגע לחסידים שצריכים הם לשוטט ברחובות ולקרב נפשות ולבבות בני ובנות ישראל לאביהם שבשמים ע"י הנהגות החסידים דרכי החסידות ותורת החסידות, וכיון שדורשים זה מאתנו הרי בודאי ניתנו לנו הכחות ע"ז כי אין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו ולפום גמלא שיחנא, ועלינו להודות להשי"ת על טוב חלקנו שזכינו להיות בדורות כאלו שנתגלה תורת החסידות באותיות וענינים מובנים לכל אשר כאו"א מאתנו עשוהו למשפיע אשר יזכה לקרב את לבן של ישראל לאבינו שבשמים אשר גודל ענין זה אין לשער ואין להעריך והאריכות בזה אך למותר.
בודאי [ה]שתתף בהתועדויות דחדש כסלו ואתענין לדעת הפרטים בזה.
בברכה לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות, וכפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, טובות עם כל הפירושים.

I received your letter in due time, in which you request some guidance regarding your conduct in Eretz HaKodesh, in our camp where everyone is simple people—refugees from various places...
I have already said that since we are now in the footsteps of Mashiach, it is incumbent upon each person to strive in preparing for the coming of Mashiach according to the Baal Shem Tov's teaching: this will be when "Yafutzu Maayanosecha Chutzah" (your wellsprings will spread outward). Now this work rests upon each one who has merited the light of Chassidus. And since, as you write, everyone in your camp are simple people, for you there is a broad field for this work.
It is known—and also explained in the talks of my father-in-law, the Rebbe—that in earlier times and according to Nigleh (the revealed part of Torah), the custom was that mashpi'im (influencers) would wait until the recipient would come to receive. The Baal Shem Tov instituted—and so did many of his students and their students after him—that the mashpia goes to the recipient. This also applies regarding chassidim: they must go out into the streets and draw close the souls and hearts of Jewish sons and daughters to their Father in Heaven through chassidic conduct, ways of Chassidus, and teachings of Chassidus.
Since this is demanded from us, surely we have been given the strength for it—for "the Holy One does not make unreasonable demands on His creatures," and "according to the camel is its load." We must thank Hashem for our good fortune that we have merited to live in generations when Chassidus has been revealed in clear terms and concepts so that each one of us has been made into a mashpia who can merit bringing close the hearts of Israel to our Father in Heaven—a matter whose greatness cannot be measured or estimated; elaborating on this is unnecessary.
You will certainly participate in the farbrengens of Kislev, and I am interested to know details about this.
Blessings for long days and good years—and as my father-in-law, the Rebbe's saying goes: good years with all interpretations.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that even among simple people there is great opportunity for avodah—especially spreading Chassidus outward. Everyone who has received Chassidus has both an obligation and G‑d-given strength to reach out and inspire others.
