B"H, Eve of Shabbos Kodesh Parshas Behaaloscha Es HaNeros, 5722.

Brooklyn, NY.

To the students of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch for the siyum celebration, Montreal, may Hashem be upon them and grant them life.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In connection with this siyum celebration, I am sending my greetings and blessings to the students celebrating and to all participants in this joy of Torah. As I have already emphasized on previous occasions, I hope that this siyum will serve as preparation and a beginning for a higher level in Torah study and fulfillment of mitzvos. This is the true content of a siyum in Torah in general, and especially in a yeshiva.

This week's parsha—Behaaloscha Es HaNeros—begins with the mitzvah of kindling—until it shines on its own—the menorah in the Mishkan and Beis HaMikdash, which Moshe Rabbeinu was instructed to transmit to Aharon HaKohen. The Torah is eternal, everlasting, and all its instructions are eternal—not limited by time or place. Therefore, it is clear that on a deeper level, the commandment of lighting the lamps relates to every Jew at all times and in all places.

Based on the maamar Behaaloscha Es HaNeros from the Alter Rebbe—the Baal HaTanya v'Shulchan Aruch and founder of Chabad Chassidus—it is understood according to the verse "Ner Hashem Nishmas Adam" (the soul of man is G‑d's lamp) that a Jew's soul—which is truly a part of Elokus from above—is the Divine "light," and every Jew is a "Kohen" according to the name G‑d gave our people: "a kingdom of priests." Therefore it is both an obligation and privilege for every Jew to ignite his light—his soul—with the illumination of Ner Mitzvah v'Torah Or; as well as to kindle the lights—the souls—of every Jew he can reach who may still be in darkness for various reasons, whose soul does not yet shine as Jewish souls should shine.

As Lubavitcher students, I hope you will always remember that you must be "lamps to illuminate"—radiant lights who also ignite and brighten other lights; spreading the brightness of Torah and mitzvos with enthusiasm and vitality as required by the mitzvah of "Ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha." May Hashem grant you success in this, bringing you blessing and success in all your matters.

With blessings for success in all mentioned above.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that completing Torah study should inspire us to elevate ourselves spiritually while also igniting others' souls with Torah's light. Every Jew has both an obligation and privilege to spread G‑dly illumination through mitzvos with enthusiasm and love for fellow Jews.
