אין דער שאלה, וועגען די סכומים וואס איר שיקט אייער מוטער תחי', פארשטענדליך אז איר דארפט דאס אנהאלטען און פארזעצען, ולפלא השאלה והספק בזה.
און אין דער פראגע, צי קענט איר פארניצען אויף דעם, די גאנצע אדער א טייל פון אייער קופת צדקה, און בפרט פון דעם מעשר.
דארפט איר פרעגן בא א רב וועלכע פסק'נט שאלות און איבערגעבען עם די פרטים אין דעם, און ער וועט אייך זאגען דעם דעת תורה אין דעם.
און אזוי ווי מיר דערנעהנטערן זיך צום חדש כסלו, חדש הנסים והגאולה, זאל אויך אזוי זיין אין אלע אייערע ענינים הנ"ל.

After a longer trip, your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan arrived—it was delayed on the way longer than usual. It is understandable that I am greatly surprised and amazed that you mention nothing about your activities in holiness in general and especially from the month of Tishrei, regarding spreading Judaism and disseminating the wellsprings in particular. If all Anash are obligated in this, how much more so those who have seen the kindnesses of Hashem Yisborach even when everything goes smoothly—and especially when one asks for an additional blessing from Hashem. Even someone who thinks that for many years he has already conducted himself in this way should understand that on the contrary, this itself is sufficient reason to demand from oneself even more—as explained in Iggeres HaKodesh at the end of chapter 9: "He would regularly read one page—let him read two pages," etc. Surely it is unnecessary to elaborate on such self-evident matters.
May it be G‑d's will that I merit to receive good news regarding all the above, and that it should be in a manner of increasing and progressing—adding light until "ufaratzta yama vakeidma vatzafona vanegba" (and you shall spread out westward and eastward and northward and southward). And when one conducts oneself as Hashem Yisborach instructs, then as the Mishnah says: "Nullify your will before His will so that..." etc., as is well known.
Regarding the question about the sums your mother sends you: it is clear that you should continue and maintain this support; it is surprising there should be any question or doubt about this.
As for whether you can use all or part of your charity fund for this purpose—especially from maaser—you must ask a rabbi who rules on such questions and provide him with all relevant details; he will tell you the Daas Torah (halachic ruling) on this matter.
And as we approach the month of Kislev—the month of miracles and redemption—so may it be in all your above-mentioned matters.
