Distress Over Inaction in Spreading Chassidus and Yiddishkeit

The Rebbe expresses deep distress that instead of actively spreading Chassidus and strengthening Yiddishkeit, many sit idly by. He urges that the responsibility is not individual but collective, emphasizing the urgent need for action, especially in Eretz Yisrael.

Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z Moreinu HaRav Rafael Nachman HaKohen

Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh Chazon, in which you explain your long silence as having nothing to write about, it is clear the distress from such a situation—although, to my great sorrow, this is indeed the conduct of most of Anash in Eretz HaKodesh—this does not change at all the matter at hand. At a time when at every moment it is possible and easy according to one's ability to accomplish much, especially now in Eretz HaKodesh, in spreading the wellsprings outward and strengthening Judaism in general, tens and perhaps even more of Anash—and among them also Temimim who merited that our holy Rebbeim invested their energies so they would be lamps to illuminate—sit with folded arms and "wait" for inspiration from outside. And when that inspiration comes, it is as described in Likkutei Torah regarding a woman giving birth to a female child; and for the vast majority even this birth does not occur—as it says: Nesiyim v'ruach v'geshem ein ("Clouds and wind but no rain") [Mishlei 25:14].

And it is absolutely certain that even with physical eyes one can see that hundreds of yeshivah students and Jews in general are thirsty and yearning to be shown the truth, for they too have already realized that the other side—or as commonly called, the sitra achra and all its matters—has no real existence or endurance.

According to the above, it is understood that this is not just a matter of lost profit or an individual issue for a particular Tamim or member of Anash; rather, these words also concern the powers of our Nasi—the head and intellect of the entire generation—which are not being utilized. As it says: Melech asur b'rahatim ("The king is bound by channels"); who are kings? The sages. I am already weary of repeating again and again—since apparently my letters only produce temporary humility for a short while, after which things return to their previous state—as it says: Ki am k'shei oref hu ("For they are a stiff-necked people"). May it be G‑d's will that each one of us uses our stubbornness specifically on the side of holiness, so it will be fulfilled in us: Ki am k'shei oref hu v'salachta ("For they are a stiff-necked people—and You forgave").

Blessings for health and good news.

P.S. It is clear and obvious that all of the above is directed not only at you but at the vast majority of Anash as mentioned above. With your permission to publicize this appropriately—but only if you do not omit even the conclusion. For based on past experience there is concern that even regarding these matters there will be action as described above—that is, lack of action...

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that passivity in spreading Chassidus and Yiddishkeit is deeply troubling; everyone must take responsibility to act without waiting for external motivation. The call is collective: utilize your strengths now for positive impact.
