במענה על מכתבו מי"א מר-חשון:
א) בשים לב כי משתדלים אנו להוזיל לפי האפשרות במחיר הספרים של הוצאתנו בכלל, ושגם איננו מחשבים לכם את הוצאות המשלוח אשר עולה כעת בממון רב, תבינו כי אין ביכולתנו למרות התחשבותנו עם טעמיו ונמוקיו, לתת הנחה יותר גדולה מעשרים אחוזים למאה.
ב) בקשתו בענין הקוה"ק מסרנו למערכת.
ג) חלק מהספרים שבקש כבר שלחנו לו ובקרוב נשלים אי"ה למספר שבקש, משום סבות טכניות שולחים אנו לפעמים חבילות, חבילות, אבל כלן מתיחסות ללשכתו, כגון מה ששלחנו ע"ש הרה"ג גאליצע[נ]שטיין, אורינשטיין, פאריז, ובודאי יקחם אצלם.
ד) מאש התאחרה הופעת "היום יום" לשנה זו נדפסה חוברת קטנה מורה שיעורי הלמוד היום יומיים ושלחנו לו מאה עזק' מהם.
ה) תמי' שלא נתקבל ע"ע מענה על מכתביי להרה"ג והרה"ח וכו' ש"ב מהרשיל"א וש"ב מהרח"א נאה שי'.
ומסיים בענינא דיומא יומי דחנוכה, דאופן חובת היום הוא פרסומי ניסא, ומוסיף חנוכה על פורים שצ"ל פרסומי ניסא בלילה דוקא וברה"ר דוקא - ומובן ענינים ע"פ משנ"ת בדא"ח בדרושי חנוכה - דקאי על זמן הגלות, שהוא משמש הקדמה והכנה לגילוים דמשיח וזמן הגאולה.
והנה ידוע תשובת משיח על שאלת הבעש"ט אימתי קאתי מר שהוא לכשיפוצו מעינותיך חוצה, חוצה דוקא - ונתבאר בשיחת שמח"ת תר"ץ בארוכה - שלכן צ"ל הארה נעלית יותר, וד', בתוס' וא"ו, יגי' חשכי (כמ"ש בדרושים הנ"ל).
ולכן גם בעבודה, אמרז"ל דגם הדר בעלי' (ראיתי בני עלי' והם מועטים, שמבוארת מדריגתם בתניא ספ"י) ואין לו פתח (וקשור כלל) לרה"ר, בכ"ז גם הוא מחוייב בעבודה הנ"ל וצריך להאיר ברה"ר ע"י חלון.

In response to your letter from the 11th of Mar-Cheshvan: a) Considering that we strive to lower our book prices as much as possible in general, and that we do not charge you for shipping—which currently costs a significant amount—you will understand that despite our consideration for your reasons and explanations, we cannot offer a greater discount than twenty percent.
b) Your request regarding the holy books has been forwarded to the editorial board.
c) Some of the books you requested have already been sent to you and G‑d willing we will soon complete the number you asked for. Due to technical reasons we sometimes send packages in batches; however, all are addressed to your office. For example, what was sent in care of Haraha"g Galitzenshtein, Orenshtein in Paris—you will surely collect them from them.
d) Since the publication of "Hayom Yom" for this year was delayed, a small booklet indicating the daily study portions was printed instead. We have sent you one hundred copies.
e) It is surprising that I have not yet received a reply to my letters to Haraha"g and Haraha"ch etc., Sh"b Maharshal'a and Sh"b Maharha'a Naeh.
And I conclude with a thought relevant to these days—Chanukah. The obligation of these days is pirsumei nisa (publicizing the miracle), which on Chanukah exceeds even Purim: it must be done specifically at night and specifically in the public domain. This is explained in Chassidus in discourses on Chanukah—that it refers to exile time, which serves as preparation for the revelations of Mashiach and redemption. It is well known what Mashiach answered the Baal Shem Tov when asked "When will you come?"—that it will be when "your wellsprings spread outward," specifically outward. This was explained at length in the Simchas Torah 5690 (1930) sichah—that therefore there must be an even higher illumination; dalet (four), with an added vav (making six), will reach darkness (as explained in those discourses). Therefore also in avodah: our Sages say that even those who are on a high spiritual level (as explained in Tanya chapter 39), who have no connection or opening to the public domain—nevertheless they too are obligated in this work and must shine into the public domain through a window. Note that "window" is higher than illumination through a curtain or even through a hole—see Likkutei Torah on "to understand the matter of second day Yom Tov in exile."
Summary
The Rebbe clarifies practical matters about book sales while using Chanukah's theme of publicizing miracles as a lesson: every Jew must bring light even into spiritual darkness, reaching out beyond themselves—even those already spiritually elevated must illuminate others.
