Shalom u'Vrachah!

Your letter and its enclosure reached me after a long delay. Its content is your wonder and question regarding the dispute you have with Tzeirei Chabad in Jerusalem, the holy city may it be rebuilt and established.

Now, although I am not familiar with the details of the matter you write about, knowing the self-sacrifice of the activists of Tzeirei Chabad in Jerusalem—within all of Tzeirei Chabad in Eretz HaKodesh—in every matter of strengthening Judaism and its dissemination, there certainly was a strong and well-founded reason for their conduct regarding what you write. As I surmise from your letter, and also from information in periodic letters on this subject, it appears that their reasoning is due to the strong directive upon them—within all Chassidei Chabad—the directive of our Rebbeim to distance themselves as much as possible from any matter of partisanship, whatever party it may be—even the best one.

The reason for this directive has also been explained in writing and even more so orally: our mission within all Jews is to spread Judaism; at its core, to spread the teachings of Chassidus—even outward. Therefore we must distance ourselves greatly from anything that might reduce the possibility of this dissemination—even to such an extent that even a doubt or remote doubt is treated stringently.

My strong hope is that after you reflect on what was said above—and in accordance with our Sages' teaching "Judge every person favorably"—you will judge Tzeirei Chabad favorably even in this matter. Not only should you not bear resentment toward them, but you should further assist them in their work spreading the wellsprings—and indeed increase your support beyond what you have done until now. Surely this mission is also precious to you. May I receive good news from you regarding all this; for peace is great—for all Torah was given to increase peace in the world.

As we approach Pesach—the time of our freedom—which is coming upon us and all Israel for good, I send you my blessing: a kosher and joyous Pesach holiday and true freedom from anything that confuses one's service of Hashem with joy and gladness of heart.

With honor and blessing.

It is understood and obvious that what was said above regarding the directive against partisanship for Chabad and its people does not come to criticize party activism based on Torah and mitzvah; rather, it is to emphasize that even such activism is not among the missions of Chabad or its people—for "his own comes before others." The spreading of the wellsprings must specifically reach even outward. And although the general mission for all Jews is one—as stated in Mishnah: "I was created only to serve my Creator"—within this service itself there are many types, kinds, and details; each one ascends on his own path to the House of G‑d.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that disagreements should be viewed through a lens of understanding others' dedication to their mission. He stresses non-partisanship as central to Chabad's work and encourages supporting those who spread Judaism while recognizing each person's unique role in serving G‑d.
