To the esteemed Chief Rabbi, vavac"h iy"a honored and elevated, renowned for his great deeds, a man of many accomplishments and noble character traits, etc., Harav Yaakov, known as Dr. Hertz.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

The Rebbe, my father-in-law, the Lubavitcher Rebbe shlita, addressed a message by letter to Jewish soldiers for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah.

Considering the great benefit that comes from reading this message also for Jews in the British army—especially those in territories under British military control—so that they may be inspired to provide spiritual assistance to our fellow Jews who are suffering there, we found it appropriate to send your honor a certain number of copies of this message so that you may distribute them by air among these soldiers if you see fit.

We have also sent a certain number of copies of the letter from my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, to the Jews of Europe. Through your religious office these letters can reach various places in liberated countries which otherwise cannot be contacted.

This merit is brought about through your honor and your worthy colleagues. It goes without saying that if more copies of either letter are needed we will provide them immediately according to your instructions at the address you indicate.

I conclude with blessings for the coming year—Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbat—a good and sweet year which will be entirely a day that is all Shabbat and rest.
