Utilizing Time and Language to Inspire Yirat Shamayim

The Rebbe addresses the importance of using familiar language and available time to instill Yirat Shamayim, Ahavas Hashem, and Ahavas HaTorah in students. He advises not to delay learning for language reasons and discusses naming a beis midrash without limiting its scope.

Havavac"h iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z David Slamik

Shalom u'Vrachah!

After the longest break, I received your two letters with their enclosures and the pan to be read at an auspicious time at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory. It is surprising that there was such a long pause in your writing until now, as well as the omission in this letter regarding your fixed times for studying Chassidus both for yourself and for others.

Regarding what you wrote about which language to use when learning with the young men and students: Since it is necessary to inform them of G‑d's commandments and what should not be done practically, it is clear there is no time to wait in these studies until they understand another language than what they are already accustomed to. Therefore, you must teach them in the language they currently understand and utilize all your available time to influence them—not for learning a new language but to instill within them a spirit of Yirat Shamayim (awe of Heaven), Ahavas Hashem (love of G‑d), and Ahavas HaTorah (love of Torah). This is self-evident.

Regarding your question about the tzedakah of ShP"H—enclosed is a copy of the sichah where this matter is explained.

Regarding your question about my opinion on what name to give the beis midrash or group: it is better to choose a name that does not limit them (not binding), so I do not see reason to use a name already associated with another organization.

May Hashem grant you merit and success to increase in your own learning and teaching others both in Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus and its guidance. May you take part in our generation's inner mission—spreading the wellsprings outward—which, as stated by the Baal Shem Tov in his famous holy letter, is the preparation and vessel for the coming of our righteous Moshiach very soon.

Blessings that together with your wife may you raise your children for Torah, marriage, and good deeds.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that one should use every available moment and familiar language to inspire students with awe of Heaven and love for Torah. The focus should be on spiritual growth rather than linguistic skills or limiting organizational names.
