Havavac"h iy"a nu"n worshippers of the Beit HaKnesset Nusach HaAri...
Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we find ourselves on the eve of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, which is known as the month of redemption, miracles, and victory—as is well known among all Jews—and before completing a visit to the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us), as is customary every eve of Rosh Chodesh in general and especially on this eve of Rosh Chodesh Kislev in particular, I was surprised and saddened to hear a rumor—which I hope is not true in practice—that there are intentions, G‑d forbid, to change the good custom of reciting and studying in the synagogue from the teachings of our Rebbes zatzal in Chabad Chassidus. This has been practiced for many years and generations and is even reflected in the name of your shul: Nusach HaAri.
As stated above, I want to be strong in my confidence that this is nothing more than a rumor and that you will continue this aforementioned good custom as before—and even add to it according to our holy Torah's instruction to always increase in holiness. This follows the lesson from the mitzvah of Chanukah candles: one must always add and increase light. Certainly all those who pray at Beit HaKnesset Nusach HaAri will help maintain this custom which, due to its long-standing nature over many years, has become not just a custom but an established halachic practice.
Additionally—and this too is essential—it is well known that my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, his father before him, and so on generation after generation back to Rabbeinu HaZaken (the Alter Rebbe), all demanded that the wellsprings of Chassidus be spread everywhere. It was explicitly emphasized that this matter is not only for Chabad chassidim but—over time—for all Israel. If such a demand existed during my father-in-law's time and earlier, how much more so does it apply now in our generation—the era preceding Mashiach—when we need heavenly assistance at every step.
I was even more surprised to hear that perhaps some Satmar chassidim might be dissatisfied or even try to hinder this study of Chabad teachings—especially since last Sukkot I received the sefer Yoel Moshe [by the Satmar Rebbe shlita], where he brings and bases his words on those of Rabbeinu HaZaken (the Baal HaTanya and Shulchan Aruch). Is it possible that his own chassid would act contrary—and even more so—to hinder others from such a matter publicly?
As mentioned above, I hope that learning Chabad Chassidus will continue without any hindrance. For now I will be brief and say: peace—true peace—as stated by our Sages (Sanhedrin 99b): "Anyone who studies Torah for its own sake brings peace above and below," as explained at length in Likkutei Torah by Rabbeinu HaZaken (discourse beginning "Heichaltzu") and also in a maamar with a similar opening by my revered ancestor (the Rebbe Maharash) whose discourse is attached here.
Blessings for a joyful month filled with chassidic spirit; through this study—which is part of spreading the wellsprings outward from the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov—may we merit very soon to fulfill Mashiach's answer: "When will you come? When your wellsprings spread outward."
Summary
The letter urges steadfastness in maintaining communal study of Chabad Chassidus at Nusach Ari shul. The Rebbe highlights its halachic strength due to tradition and its vital role in spreading chassidic teachings—an effort tied directly to hastening redemption.
