Shalom u'Vrachah!

I was pleased to receive your letter, in which you inform me about organizing the Melaveh Malkah during the days between Yud Tes Kislev—the yahrzeit of the great Maggid and the victory of Chassidus with the redemption of our Rebbe, the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—and Chanukah, which is the victory of the light within Torah, as it says: 'to make them forget Your Torah.'

This awakening at the meal of David Malka—'who redeemed my soul in peace for many were with me.' As explained by Yerushalmi: even those from Avshalom's camp (the opposing side) were truly with me; meaning that everyone should do their part in spreading the Baal Shem Tov's wellsprings outward to their utmost ability.

For inwardly, 'many were with me,' meaning that even those who openly oppose this are, in their heart of hearts, aware of the inner dimension of Torah—the soul of Torah. When one opens even a tiny opening in a Jewish person—as small as a needle's eye—Hashem helps and opens it as wide as a great hall.
