After the longest silence (although during this time I inquired and received reports about your well-being and affairs—from the side), it was a pleasure to receive your letter from the 24th of Tishrei along with your article in Sha'arim, which you enclosed. Thank you for your attention in sending me this article.

My strong hope is that this is only the beginning; I mean that you will utilize your talents in the vineyard of Chassidus, especially to spread the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, his students, and their students—their guidance and customs—through all channels and means at your disposal. Nothing stands in the way of willpower, especially in our times when we see with our own eyes that specifically the spirit of Chassidim and Chassidus paves paths and captures souls in various and broad circles. The matter depends only on the talent that inspires and acts in this area. One whom Hashem has endowed with a writer's pen—by which his words reach thousands upon thousands of Jews—his ability is many times greater, as are his responsibility and merit.

It is clear and obvious that working with others does not exempt one—G‑d forbid—from working on oneself, as it is written: "Ki Tireh Arom V'kisito..." (If you see someone naked, clothe him...)—and it is known what our Sages expound on this verse: that it also refers to matters of Torah and mitzvos. The verse concludes: "U'mibsarcha Lo Tit'alem" (Do not ignore your own flesh).
