לאחרי הדומי' הכי ארוכה (אף שבמשך זמן זה שאלתי וקבלתי ידיעות משלומו וענינו - מן הצד), נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מכ"ד תשרי עם מאמרו בשערים המוסגר בו, ות"ח[3] בעד שימת לבבו אשר בשילוח מאמרו זה אלי.
ותקותי חזקה אשר אין זה אלא ההתחלה, כוונתי שינצל את כשרונותיו בכרם החסידות ביחוד להפיץ תורת הבעש"ט[4] תלמידיו ותלמידי תלמידיו הדרכותי' ומנהגי' על ידי כל הצנורות והאופנים העומדים לרשותו, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ובפרט בימינו אלה אשר רואים אפילו בעיני בשר אשר דוקא מהלך הרוח של חסידים וחסידות כובש מסילות וצודה נפשות בחוגים שונים ורחבים, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בכשרון המעורר ועושה בזה, ומי שחננו השי"ת בעט סופרים אשר עי"ז[5] דבריו מגיעים לאלפים ואלפים מבני ישראל, היכולת שלו גדולה פי כמה, וביחד עם זה גם האחריות והזכות.
ומובן ופשוט שהעבודה והשתדלות עם הזולת אינה פוטרת ח"ו מהעבודה בעצמו וכמ"ש[6] כי תראה ערום וכסיתו וגו'[7] - וידועה דרשת רז"ל על פ' זה שהכוונה גם לעניני תורה ומצות, ומסיים הכתוב: ומבשרך לא תתעלם.

Greetings and blessing!
After the longest silence (although during this time I asked about and received news of your well-being and your affairs — indirectly), I was pleased to receive your letter of 24 Tishrei, with your article in Sha'arim enclosed in it. Many thanks for your thoughtfulness in sending me this article of yours.
I strongly hope that this is only the beginning — I mean, that you will use your talents in the vineyard of Chassidus, especially to spread the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, his disciples and his disciples' disciples, their guidance and their customs, through all the channels and means at your disposal. And nothing stands in the way of the will. This is especially so in these days of ours, when one sees even with physical eyes that it is precisely the spirit of Chassidim and Chassidus that is paving roads and capturing souls in various and wide circles, and the matter depends only on the ability of the one who arouses and works at it. One whom G‑d, blessed be He, has graced with a writer's pen, so that his words reach thousands upon thousands of Jews, has a capacity many times greater — and together with this, so too are his responsibility and his privilege.
It is understood and obvious that working and endeavoring with others does not, G‑d forbid, exempt one from working on oneself, as it is written: כי תראה ערום וכסיתו וגו', "When you see the naked, clothe him, etc." (Yeshayahu 58:7) — and the exposition of our Sages on this verse is well known, that it refers also to matters of Torah and mitzvos — and the verse concludes: ומבשרך לא תתעלם, "and do not hide yourself from your own flesh."
