Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 19th of Elul with the three panim enclosed, which will be read at an auspicious time at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzukal lehavdil bein chaim lechaim zichrono tzaddik v'kadosh l'vracha.
Regarding what you wrote about the status of the yeshiva not being clarified yet, in my opinion this is not so, for it has been clear for some time that the teachings and matters of the Baal Shem Tov must fulfill "Yafutzu Chutzah" (they will spread outward), and therefore it is impossible that there should be a corner on earth where Jews reside that this Torah will not reach. And specifically as per the will of the Baal Shem Tov and his successors, the Chabad leaders—that Torah and life should be one, meaning in daily life.
And since we have heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that we are in Ikvesa d'Meshicha (the footsteps of Mashiach), who stands behind our wall waiting only for clarification of small remaining opposites, it is certain that even in Australia there must be study of Chassidus—not only among Anash from Russia who were sent there but also penetrating into the local Jewish residents of Australia. And since this is necessary, all that is required for it will surely be found.
It is certainly unnecessary to point out that since the building of the yeshiva makes a good impression, efforts should be made for it to become a general center for Chabad matters—a place for Torah, prayer, gatherings, assemblies, etc. It is understood that all this should be done in a way that does not interfere with studies; but certainly there is room and time for all these matters in this building. Experience has already shown that having these other activities there will surely assist with yeshiva matters.
As we approach the new year coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you and all yours: may you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year materially and spiritually.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that spreading Chassidus to every Jewish community—including distant places like Australia—is both inevitable and essential. He encourages making communal institutions centers for Torah and Chassidic life while wishing blessings for a good new year.
