במענה על שאלתו במכתבו שבדעתו לשלוח את בנו... שי' ללמוד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בברוקלין, דבר נכון הוא כי הרי חינוך הבנים הוא מצות עשה (עיין בהקדמת רבינו הזקן לשער היחוד והאמונה) ובמילא בטח קיומה ימשיך ג"כ תוספת ברכה והמשכת אור ומאור ברוחניות ובמילא גם תוספת בענינים הגשמיים המצטרכים לו ולב"ב שי' בכלל.
והשי"ת יצליחו להפיץ תורה אור ונר מצוה ומאור שבתורה זוהי תורת החסידות בסביבתו מתוך הרחבת הדעת ופרנסה במנוחה.

In response to your question in your letter about your intention to send your son... may he live, to study at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshivah in Brooklyn: this is indeed the correct thing to do, for the education of children is a positive mitzvah (see the introduction of our master the Alter Rebbe to Shaar HaYichud VehaEmunah). Therefore, certainly fulfilling it will also bring additional blessing and an increase of spiritual light and illumination—and consequently also an increase in all material matters needed by you and your entire family.
May Hashem grant you success in spreading Torah Or (the light of Torah) and Ner Mitzvah (the lamp of mitzvah), and the illumination within Torah—which is the teachings of Chassidus—in your surroundings, with expanded understanding and peaceful livelihood.
