Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter from Monday, in which you write about the schedule of classes during the summer and the changes that have occurred. Certainly, from time to time there will be additions, and it is already well known the teaching that nothing can stand in the way of the will and that all beginnings are difficult.
You write that you feel discouraged because you do not see any effect or change among those who attend your class at a certain synagogue. Surely this is only your impression, for it is impossible that words of Torah in general and words of Chassidus in particular should not have an effect—whether sooner or later—until eventually even someone who judges only by appearances recognizes the change. However, this does not always happen quickly, and not all those who influence or are influenced are alike in this regard.
In truth, these are two separate matters: every Jew must do what is incumbent upon him—and the impact on the recipient is another matter entirely. There is satisfaction in this as well, which is also a form of reward. Nevertheless, we are assured that persistent effort does not return empty-handed and words that come from the heart enter the heart. Therefore, continue your good activities spreading the wellsprings everywhere until they reach even further outwards; you will see good fruit from your labor among those who attend your classes and chassidic satisfaction from your family.
Enclosed is a continuation of the list regarding imprisonment; surely you will use its content to benefit many in an appropriate manner.
Blessings, M. Schneersohn
P.S. Surely it is unnecessary to remind you to utilize as much as possible the upcoming days of redemption—12th and 13th of Tammuz—but do so in a way that even people in London will recognize this as "ways of pleasantness."
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that perseverance and sincere effort in spreading Torah and Chassidus always yield results—even if they are not immediately visible—and encourages continued dedication despite initial difficulties or apparent lack of progress.
