במענה למכתבם מי"ד אלול חדש הרחמים, בו כותב ר"פ מאשר עבר עליהם, ולאחרונה מהאבדה בהלקח מאתם בנם... ע"ה.
ויהי רצון ממנחם ציון וירושלים שיחזק את כאו"א מהם ככל הדרוש, ולימים יבואו אך טוב וחסד ימצאם.
ומתאים לכתבו אודות המשפחה וצור מחצבתו, תקותי שלמותר להאריך בענין נצחיות הנפש, ובפרט שאפילו חכמי או"ה מודים בזה ללא שום ספק, ורק שעוברת הנפש ממצב אחד לשני, שלכן כל אלו שהיו בעבר קשורים אליה ורוצים בטובתה [והרי גם אז כשנשמה בגוף - ההתקשרות והאהבה היא להנפש, כי הגוף אינו אלא לבוש חיצוני] עליהם להשתדל לגרום נחת רוח לנפש הנפטר ככל אשר בידם, והוא על ידי שמכניסים רוח טהרה ואור זך לד' אמות של עצמו ובסביבה, שזהו מכשיר את האדם והמקום לקבלת השפעת השי"ת שהוא מקור החיים האמיתי, אמיתת המציאות, שלכן בכל ענין ודבר המקושר עם מקור החיים, בו מתקיים הכתוב, ואתם הדבקים בה' אלקיכם חיים כולכם היום, ובודאי למותר להדגיש שהכוונה בזה לתורתנו תורת חיים ומצותי' עליהן נאמר וחי בהם.
ועוד באותו ענין, אף שבודאי למותר להזכיר, תקותי שבודאי מסודר בהחלט בהנוגע לעניני קדיש, לימוד משניות לזכר נשמת הנפטר ועוד ועיקר עשיית צדקה - כפשוטה וצדקה ברוחניות כאמור לענין הפצת היהדות המסורתית בכל מקום שהשפעתו מגעת, וינעם לי לקבל בשורה טובה מהסידור בכל האמור.
ועוד להעיר לתחלת מכתבו ע"ד מקום עבודתו שבשביל זה לא בא עד עתה בכתובים וכו' - לפלא ותמי' שהרי בין אחב"י עובד הוא, וכל ישראל ערבים זב"ז, ומי יודע - אפשר כוונת עבודתו שם הוא בשביל שעל ידו תגיע לשם הוספה בנר מצוה תורה אור ומאור שבתורה זוהי פנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות באור וחיות שלה, ואם גם בשנים מלפנים אין לך יהודי שאין לו שעה ונקודה שיכולים להשפיע עליו, עאכו"כ בימינו אלה, שבהסביבה אודותה כותב ובה עובד, נראית התעוררות לקדשי בני ישראל האמיתים הם הן התורה ומסורת אבות וגם להלימוד (שמביא לידי מעשה בפועל, קיום מצות מעשיות). ועל כגון דא הרי אמרו חכמינו, אין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 14th of Elul, the month of mercy, in which R"P writes about what you have gone through and recently about the loss with the passing of your son... may his memory be for a blessing.
May it be G‑d's will—He who comforts Zion and Jerusalem—that He strengthen each one of you as needed, and that only goodness and kindness will find you in the days to come.
In line with what you wrote regarding family and your roots, I trust there is no need to elaborate on the eternity of the soul—especially since even non-Jewish scholars agree on this without any doubt. The soul simply passes from one state to another. Therefore, all those who were previously connected to it and wish for its good (for even when the soul is in a body, our connection and love are for the soul—the body is merely an external garment) should strive to bring satisfaction to the soul of the departed as much as possible. This is achieved by bringing purity and refined light into one's own four cubits and surroundings. This prepares both person and place to receive influence from Hashem—the true source of life and true reality. Thus, in every matter connected with the source of life, we fulfill what is written: 'Ve'atem ha'dveikim b'Hashem Elokeichem chayim kulchem hayom' (And you who cleave to Hashem your G‑d are all alive today). Certainly it goes without saying that this refers to our Torah—the Torah of life—and its mitzvos about which it is said 'v'chai bahem' (and you shall live by them).
Further on this topic—though it surely goes without saying—I trust that matters regarding Kaddish, learning Mishnayos for the elevation of the departed's soul, and especially giving tzedakah (both literally and spiritually—as in spreading traditional Judaism wherever your influence reaches) are all arranged properly. I would be pleased to receive good news regarding all these arrangements.
I would also like to comment on what you wrote at the beginning of your letter about your workplace being why you have not written until now—it is surprising! After all, among fellow Jews you work; all Israel are responsible for one another. Who knows—perhaps your work there is so that through you there will be an increase in 'ner mitzvah v'Torah or' (the lamp of mitzvah and light of Torah), especially since 'ma'or shebaTorah' (the luminary within Torah)—which is Chassidus—has been revealed in our generation with its unique light and vitality. Even years ago there was no Jew without at least a moment or point where he could be influenced; how much more so nowadays—in your current environment—where there is visible awakening towards sanctity among true children of Israel: Torah, ancestral tradition, as well as learning (which leads to practical action—the fulfillment of mitzvos). On such matters our Sages said: 'Ein lecha davar ha'omed bifnei haratzon' (Nothing stands before willpower).
Blessings for good news and a good inscription [in the Book of Life].
P.S. It pleased me to read several lines about your brother—the vavac"h iy"a etc.—may he live long—who succeeds in spreading Torah light in an ever-expanding environment, especially among youth—boys and girls—may they live; they are builders of our future and its foundation.
