במענה למכתבו מכ' תמוז, בו כותב אודות מצב בריאות בתו... תחי' ודעת הרופאים בזה, שכמה מהם מייעצים נתוח ביד, ואינו ברור במכתבו, אם זוהי דעת רופא יחיד או רופאים רבים ועוד ועיקר - האם הדיעה מבוססת רק על העדר ידיעה לסיבת המיחוש (שלכאורה כן משמע כיון שעשו טפולים שונים אחרים) או שיודעים המיחוש ברור וגם הטפולים הנ"ל שייכים למיחוש, אלא שבמקרה זה לא הצליח, ובטח יברר האמור ובהתאם להידיעות יחליטו.
ועוד להוסיף, אשר בנתוחים כאלו ישנם סוג שנוגע לא כ"כ עצם הנתוח, שבסגנון כתבו קל הוא, כי אם הזהירות יתירה שלא לנגוע בעצבים (נערוון) ועורקים (מוסקולס) הנוגעים לנענוע אצבע או אצבעות, כן מהנכון לברר החלק שמתוסף מצד "הפסיכולוגיא", ז. א. ענין שאינו בגשם האצבע והיד, כי אם בכח המחשבה והדמיון - שנדמה לבתו שבחזרתה לעבודה גם הכאב חוזר [שבמקרה זה הרי התבוננותה בהענין דהשגחה פרטית וזה שהמשגיח על כאו"א הוא ג"כ רופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות, ונאמר בכל אשר תעשה, וההדגשה בכל אפילו כל שהוא, יש מקום לומר שיחליש אז הדמיון ואת הכאבים בזה], ויהי רצון שיבשר טוב בכל האמור.
התקוה חזקה שעשה בשבועות אלה בענין הפצת המעינות בכל מקום שידו מגעת, ובטח ימלא עד"ז בהזדמנות הבאה.

In response to your letter from the 20th of Tammuz, in which you write about your daughter's health situation... may she live—and the doctors' opinions on this matter, some of whom advise surgery on the hand. It is not clear from your letter whether this is the opinion of a single doctor or several doctors. More importantly—whether their opinion is based only on not knowing the cause of the issue (which it seems is the case since various other treatments were tried), or if they do know the cause clearly and these treatments were also related to it but simply did not succeed in this instance. Certainly, you will clarify this and make a decision accordingly based on this information.
Additionally, with such surgeries there are types where it is not so much the surgery itself that matters—which you describe as being simple—but rather extra caution not to touch nerves (nervon) and arteries (muskolos) that affect finger or fingers' movement. It is also appropriate to clarify if there is an added aspect from "psychology," meaning something not physical in the finger or hand but rather due to thought and imagination—such as your daughter feeling that when she returns to work, the pain returns as well. In such a case, contemplating Divine Providence—that He who watches over each individual is also the healer of all flesh and works wonders—and remembering that it says "in all that you do," with emphasis on "all," even something minor—may help weaken her imagination and thus her pain.

I strongly hope that during these weeks you have been involved in spreading the wellsprings wherever possible, and surely you will continue at every opportunity.
