נוסף על מה שנהניתי לראותו עם בנו שי' בעת התועדות יום הבהיר חג גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו הוא י"ט כסלו העבר, הנה נעם לי לקבל עתה מכתבו, בו מודיע אשר גם במחנו הט' סידר התועדות אור ליום י"ט כסלו עם תורה ניגונים וכו'.
ויה"ר מהשי"ת אשר מתאים לפתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שזהו ראש השנה בלימוד ודרכי החסידות, הרי זה תהי' התחלה טובה להנהיג שיעור לימוד בתניא וחסידות בכלל נוסף על השיעורים הקבועים כבר, וידוע פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, שכשמעמידים פנס בלילה ברחוב מתקבצים סביבו אנשים.
והרי אין צריכים ראיות והוכחות שנמצאים עתה בליל החשך והגלות וברחוב רשות הרבים, היינו שכל אחד אומר דיעה בתורה ויהדות מבלי להתחשב אם יש לו בזה ידיעה או שכל ידיעותיו הם מהעתונים וכלל היותר מאנציקלופדי' ומי יאמר אם אף גמר בית הספר שלהם היינו של רעפארם או עכ"פ קונסרבטי הרי בודאי מוסמך הוא לחוות דיעה [ב]הנ"ל, ואף שמדרך הפנס שהאור מגינים עליו ע"י זכוכית שהרוחות לא יכבוהו, אבל לאידך גיסא צריכה הזכוכית להיות זכה ושקופה כדי שהאור יחדור להרחוב, והאריכות לדכוותי' אך למותר.

In addition to the pleasure I had seeing you with your son at the farbrengen on the bright day of our festival of liberation and redemption of our soul, Yud-Tes Kislev just passed, it was also pleasing to receive your letter informing me that in our ninth camp you also organized a farbrengen on the eve of Yud-Tes Kislev with Torah, niggunim, etc.
May it be the will of Hashem that, in accordance with the saying of my revered father-in-law the Rebbe—of blessed memory—that this is the Rosh Hashanah for learning and ways of Chassidus, this should be a good beginning to establish a study session in Tanya and Chassidus in general, in addition to the regular classes already held. It is known from my revered father-in-law's saying that when a lantern is placed at night in the street, people gather around it.
There is no need for proofs that we are now in a night of darkness and exile and in the public domain—meaning everyone expresses opinions about Torah and Judaism without considering whether they have any real knowledge or if all their information comes from newspapers or at best an encyclopedia. And who can say if even their school graduation was from Reform or at least Conservative institutions—so surely they feel qualified to give opinions on these matters.
And although it is customary for a lantern's light to be protected by glass so that winds do not extinguish it, on the other hand, the glass must be clear and transparent so that the light can penetrate into the street. The length here is only for your honor but is really unnecessary.

The Rebbe teaches that spreading authentic Torah and Chassidus is vital amidst widespread confusion. Like a lamp illuminating darkness, our teachings must be clear and accessible so true light reaches all—even when many speak without genuine knowledge.
