במענה על מכתבו ממוצש"ק שמות.
לפלא שרוצה לפרש מה שכתבתי לו מאז שפעולותיו בחינוך הכשר עתה, אינם בסוג הפעולות אודותם כתבתי וזרזתי אותו, והרי פשיטא שחינוך על טהרת הקדש המקרב לב המוחנכים לאבינו שבשמים לתורתו ולמצותיו הרי זה מפעולות הכי נשגבות וכפירוש רז"ל מלאכת ה'' היא, אבל לחוד בזה אין יוצאים ידי חובתו כדבעי וע"ד מאמר רז"ל בהנוגע לנקדימון כדבעי למיעבד לא עביד אף שתרם להצדקה בהפלגה וק"ל. ואם בהנוגע לכ"א הדברים אמורים עאכו"כ לאלו שזכו לטעום מתורת דא"ח הדרכותי' ומנהגי', שיכולת מיוחדה ניתנה להם בפעולות שכללותם כלל הגדול שבתורה ואהבת לרעך כמוך, ומהעיקרים בזה הפצת המעינות חינוך על טהרת הקדש בכלל וכו'.
מהנ"ל מובן ג"כ שמה שכותב שעבודתו עתה קשה היא, כל הקישוים כדאים בשביל עבודה נעלית כזו, והשי"ת יצליחו להוסיף אומץ בכל השטחים הנ"ל ולהוסיף ג"כ בקביעות עתים בתורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות ולבשר טוב בכל האמור בקרוב.

In response to your letter from Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh Shemos.
It is surprising that you wish to interpret what I previously wrote to you as if your current activities in pure education are not of the type I wrote about and encouraged you towards. It is obvious that education on the purity of holiness, which brings the hearts of those educated closer to our Father in Heaven, to His Torah and mitzvos, is among the loftiest of activities—as our Sages interpret: it is "the work of Hashem." However, this alone does not fulfill one's obligation properly, as our Sages said regarding Nakdimon: "What should have been done was not done," even though he gave charity abundantly—and this is clear.
If this applies to everyone, how much more so for those who have merited to taste from the teachings of Chassidus—its guidance and customs—for whom a special ability has been given for activities whose essence is the great principle of the Torah: "And you shall love your fellow as yourself," with one of its main points being spreading the wellsprings and pure education in general, etc.
From the above it is also understood regarding what you write about your current work being difficult—that all difficulties are worthwhile for such an exalted task. May Hashem grant you success to increase strength in all these areas mentioned above, and also to increase fixed times for studying both Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus. May you soon share good news regarding all the above.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while pure Torah education is extremely lofty, one must also actively spread Chassidus and Ahavas Yisrael. Even when challenges arise, these efforts are precious and deserving of perseverance and growth.
