במענה על מכתבו מכ"ו סיון, בו כותב אודות המיועד להיות גיסו, ומה שאמר לו בהנוגע ללימוד החסידות ועניני' שעושה הענינים בהצנע וכו'.
והנה אף שבדורות לפנים היתה הנהגה זו ענין, ובפרט שלא יהי' מיחזי כיוהרא, הנה בתקופתנו זו רואים במוחש, אשר אף שפשוט שאין צריך להיות הענין דבליטות וכיו"ב, אבל כשמתנהגים בגלוי בהנ"ל - ה"ז מחזק ומקשר יותר את המתנהג להענינים, בידעו שכבר נתפרסם ששייך הוא לחוג זה ולהנהגות אלו, ולא נאה להיות מתחרט לפתע פתאום וכו'. וכיון שצריך האדם להשתדל בכל הצטדקות שלא לבוא לידי נסיון, ועכ"פ למעטם עד כמה שאפשר, הרי גם הנהגה חסידותית בגלוי הוא אחד האמצעים להחליש את הנסיון, וק"ל.
תקותי שכל אחד מהם וכלם יחד ינצלו את ימי חג הגאולה י"ב וי"ג תמוז הבע"ל ככל האפשרי - להחזקת לימוד התורה וקיום המצות בכלל ולהפצת המעינות ביחוד.

In response to your letter from the 26th of Sivan, in which you write about your future brother-in-law and what you told him regarding the study of Chassidus and its matters—that he does these things discreetly, etc.
Although in previous generations this approach had merit, especially so as not to appear arrogant, in our times it is clearly seen that while there is no need for ostentation or the like, when one behaves openly in these matters it actually strengthens and binds the person more to them. Knowing that it is already public knowledge that he belongs to this circle and these practices makes it unseemly for him to suddenly regret or withdraw, etc.
Since a person must strive by all means not to come into a test—and at least to minimize them as much as possible—openly practicing Chassidic conduct is also one of the ways to weaken such tests. This is clear and simple.
I hope that each one of them, and all together, will utilize the upcoming days of redemption—12th and 13th of Tammuz—as much as possible: to strengthen Torah study and mitzvah observance in general, and especially to spread the wellsprings outward. I look forward to good news about this.
At an auspicious time I will mention all those you write about at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—may his merit protect us—each one for what he needs. May it be G‑d's will that you share good news about this.

Summary
