Shalom u'Vrachah!
a) I received your letter of 22 Nissan with pleasure, in which you write about your activities from last Teves until now. May it be the will of Hashem that He instill in your hearts the proper awareness fitting the demands of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal. We have heard from his holy mouth more than once or twice that one must be extremely careful not to let satisfaction with past accomplishments become an excuse for complacency or weakness in the necessary work ahead. Sometimes this satisfaction is even used to inflate one's ego—especially when there are visible successes to point to. This is similar to what was said about the spies: they first spoke truthfully so they would have a foothold to weaken the hearts of Bnei Yisrael from settling Eretz Yisrael—settling permanently and fulfilling G‑d's will—so that Israel (who merit becoming "Mine," i.e., belonging to Hashem) would not reach their purpose (see Likkutei Torah Shelach, "Ani Hashem Elokeichem," regarding our Sages' statement that whoever answers "Amen Yehei Shemei Rabbah" with all his strength causes Hashem to nod His head).
b) After this introduction, I wish to reveal that I am satisfied (though not completely) with your good activities (since for me personally there is no concern of saying "rejoice my innards" over others' efforts). The reason I write it is not complete is because as described in your letter, it is clear that every action yields fruit if done genuinely and properly without being deterred by initial obstacles. Accordingly, much more could have been accomplished during these months—Shevat through Nissan—several times over. If every period is precious because time never returns, how much more so in our era—the footsteps of Mashiach—when every moment is exceedingly precious and can be filled with great achievements whose fruits reach the ends of the world (the word "olam" meaning concealment).
c) In those places where you write that work remains unfinished or results are not yet visible, you should reconnect and clarify the situation; surely you will ultimately succeed. As the Alter Rebbe assured us: in his merit of self-sacrifice, those who follow his path will succeed in their Torah and mitzvah endeavors.
d) Regarding activities among yeshivah students: one approach should be to seek out bochurim and avreichim from Anash families within these circles and privately remind them that their fathers and grandfathers bequeathed them generations of chassidic strengths. Failing to use these strengths according to their ancestors' wishes dishonors them and wastes G‑d-given gifts. Perhaps this is even one of the main reasons they ended up at a particular yeshivah—to serve as a channel through which the inner light of Torah shines there; in our generation this light is revealed through Chassidus. Surely you will find suitable words tailored to each individual avrech or bochur you speak with.
e) You mention a gathering... Some time ago there was an avrech there who studied for several years at Tomchei Temimim here (his father was born in Eretz Yisrael and learned at Yeshivas Toras Emes). It would be appropriate to send him regards from me and encourage him to be among the first in spreading Chassidus in his area.
f) Regarding your request for detailed instructions: it is difficult to give specific guidance from such a distance. As our Sages ruled: everything depends on local conditions—as long as the main point remains preserved: every activity should keep its primary goal before you—to draw Jewish hearts closer to our Father in Heaven, especially through general Chassidus teachings and specifically Chabad Chassidus—the ways and customs of chassidim.
g) You write about possibly receiving support for your work from..., but then you would need to acknowledge this partnership in every announcement or publication—even regarding learning Chassidus or gatherings—which makes it impossible for you to accept such support under those terms. It surprises me greatly that such a condition would even be demanded! Of course, when receiving financial assistance it is proper to provide an accounting showing funds were used for their intended purpose—but this should never become leverage forcing public acknowledgment on every occasion.
h) I was pleased to read that you published my general Pesach letter's content and printed it in chareidi newspapers; please send copies here (both what was printed and newspaper clippings). In future, kindly send two copies here of anything printed; thank you for your effort. Surely by now my general letter for yeshivah students has arrived; although written for Pesach its content applies all year round.
i) Some time ago I wrote expressing surprise that membership numbers in Tzeirei Agudas Chabad are not increasing. You must explain to all young people from Anash families that joining Tzeirei Aguch is not about status but responsibility—and even those who do not join still bear responsibility! By joining they become part of the community whose collective merit helps them. As previously stated: each member of Anash families certainly possesses inherited chassidic strengths; failing to use them—or worse, disregarding them—is a grave error especially nowadays; further elaboration is unnecessary.
j) Regarding broadcasting via radio: you did not mention any possible drawbacks—which surely exist—even though from my perspective here any harm seems minor compared with potential benefit if broadcasts are properly prepared by someone suitable, using scripts approved by a special committee ensuring alignment with purpose.
k) It is very good that you decided wherever possible to appoint local supervisors who will ensure everything aligns with your goals; may Hashem grant success in finding ways suited for practical implementation.
l) I was pleased to read that you chose an additional representative from among yourselves for Aguch's leadership and held a joint meeting together with Aguch; may it be G‑d's will that henceforth ties between Tzeirei Aguch and Aguch strengthen until what began as connection becomes true unity—a single entity fulfilling our Father's will above (as explained in Chassidus these are two concepts joined together).
Summary
The Rebbe encourages ongoing growth without complacency, stresses humility despite success, urges personal responsibility among Anash youth, advises sensitivity when guiding others, insists on integrity regarding partnerships and publicity, and highlights unity as essential for fulfilling communal missions.
