Shalom u'Vrachah! [Middle of Kislev 5710]

... Enclosed is the kuntres for Yud Tes Kislev, may it come upon us for good, which has just been published. Needless to say, it is unnecessary to remind you to study and carefully consider the letter from my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, at the beginning and end of the kuntres. Therefore, it is also unnecessary to urge you about the importance of enabling many people to merit this kuntres.

As written in that first letter—and on the contrary, one could say: a) From below: There is now a need for greater light and broader dissemination because of a decline in quality (for if our predecessors were like angels, then what are we?) and in quantity (due to recent events, the number of our Jewish brethren has greatly diminished). b) From above: In general, every year a new supernal light descends from a higher level that never shone before (see Iggeres HaKodesh section 14), so we must increase our vessels for this light. Especially as we approach the time of "Be'itah Achishenah," the coming and revelation of Mashiach, whose vessel is the light of Chassidus (see Simchas Torah 5690 sichah at length). The condition for this is "Yafutzu Maayanosecha Chutzah" (your wellsprings shall spread outward). Therefore, there must be dissemination even in places that were previously considered "outside," and an expansion of vessels everywhere for Mashiach's light.

May it be G‑d's will that all blessings mentioned in those letters be fulfilled completely and speedily.

In a letter... And on the contrary: In the first letter (from Admor Maharayatz n"a) included in the Yud Tes Kislev kuntres 5710 (Sefer HaMaamarim 5710 p. 94; his Igros Kodesh vol. 10 letter #3,634), he writes: "For Yud Tes Kislev approaching soon I am giving you... and a copy of my letter from 5687 which encourages involvement in spreading study of Chassidus. And this letter remains fully effective. And on the contrary."

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that both spiritual necessity and Divine opportunity call for ever-greater efforts to spread Chassidus—especially as we approach redemption—by studying foundational letters and sharing them widely with others.
