I was pleased to hear from Mr. and Mrs.... may they live, about your activities in strengthening and spreading Judaism in your community—at the beit midrash, synagogue, and especially at the core level in proper education. If this has always been vital for Jews everywhere and at all times, how much more so in our era of many events and confusion, and in this country—the United States—where there is much good and inner quality found among the youth: innocence and faith. However, unfortunately in past years some groups exploited these traits in directions opposite to Torah and mitzvah. I was happy to hear that you have been granted by Hashem to see good fruit from your efforts—success in your work—and that many community members appreciate you for this.

May it be G‑d’s will that you continue to gain strength for Torah—the Torah of life—and its mitzvos. As our Sages say: "One who has one hundred desires two hundred." Success in your work should awaken within you a desire and enthusiasm for even greater achievements.

On this occasion I wish to remind you—though surely you already know—about setting fixed times also for the inner dimension of Torah which in our generation has been revealed through Chassidus. It is this which gives vitality and enthusiasm to a Jew’s Torah study and mitzvah observance. Especially since you influence many Jews, every increase within yourself in vitality and enthusiasm is multiplied many times over by the increase it brings about among those influenced by you as a result.

From matters concerning many to matters concerning individuals: I sensed from those mentioned above how much they are positively affected by the encouragement and strengthening they receive from you—whether through words or actions—to uplift their spirits when downcast. Even though I hope their fortunes will soon improve in certain respects, certainly you will continue to strengthen and encourage them. You also know well the tests of Judaism these individuals and their families have withstood—and not only that—they have influenced their surroundings as well to draw others closer under the wings of the Shechinah.

The Rebbe teaches that strengthening Judaism requires both personal growth through Chassidus and inspiring others with warmth. Our own enthusiasm multiplies its effect on those we influence—especially youth—leading to broader communal transformation.
