Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from the 27th of Sivan regarding the issue of tablet coatings: I have not written about this until now because the matter was still being clarified. Now, a report has been received which seems to be quite definitive: The coating of tablets varies from one factory to another—some are kosher and some are not. From this come two conclusions: a) In every place one must investigate regarding the product used in that particular hospital; b) Since it is possible for the coating to be kosher, there is always room to approach a factory with a reasonable request that they produce it in a way suitable for all.

You do not mention in your letter anything about activities in spreading the wellsprings [of Chassidus], especially in connection with the bicentennial year of the passing of our teacher, the Baal Shem Tov z"l, and I do not know why. Since I received a clipping from a newspaper from Eretz HaKodesh suggesting that Chassidim are not pleased with this year's slogan, and since I was asked about this by others as well, I answered that it is known how such matters should be evaluated according to the words of my revered father-in-law (the Rebbe Rashab) (printed in Hayom Yom, Sivan 23): One must examine what results will come from such an action or from not utilizing such a slogan. In my opinion it is clear that publicizing this slogan will certainly bring more Jews to study the works of the Baal Shem Tov, his students and their students—which itself is significant—especially since learning their teachings can lead to action and strengthen all aspects of Judaism; surely this too will increase through such publicity. On the other hand, I do not see what benefit comes from neglecting this opportunity. All this is in addition to what is related by Rabbeinu HaZaken—the parable of the precious stone in the king's crown which is ground down and poured out just so there may be even a doubtful chance that one drop will enter the mouth of the dying prince—and certainly for any sick person; and so it is understood.

May it be G‑d's will that as we approach the days of redemption—the festival commemorating my revered father-in-law's liberation—all matters concerning Chassidim and Chassidus be redeemed from all disturbances, and may the wellsprings of the Baal Shem Tov—that is, Chassidus—spread outward until they reach even further and bring about complete and true redemption very soon.

With honor and blessings for the Festival of Redemption and good news in all mentioned above.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches us to thoroughly investigate kashrus issues locally while also advocating for broader positive influence by publicizing Chassidic teachings—even if some object—since spreading these wellsprings strengthens Jewish life and hastens redemption.
