במענה על מכתבו מיום ט"ו סיון והקודם לו.
הנה במ"ש אני אודות השפעתו בהפצת המעינות חוצה, כוונתי היתה לביקורו בישיבה ... וקויתי אשר מה שמעורר הנני עד"ז, יעורר בו חשק להמשיך בפעולות נשגבות אלו וביתר שאת וביתר עז, והרי ההכרח בזה, ולאו דוקא בישיבה הנ"ל, גדול ביותר, ונוגע גם לקיום היעוד לאימתי קאתי מר, לכשיפוצו כו' שיתקרב יותר, וכיון שדורשים זאת מאת כאו"א מאתנו, בודאי ניתנו הכחות והאפשריות למלאות הדרישה וכמובן.
ב) מה שהזכרתי במכתבי אודות קו השלישי דגמ"ח, הנה נוסף על שלימות הענין נוגע גם בתוכן מכתבי כו', כי הרי העסק בהפצת המעינות חוצה ובכלל בהשפעה על הזולת ה"ז ענין דגמ"ח.
ג) נהניתי ממ"ש אשר ממשיך באמירת השיעורים בישיבת ... ות"ל אשר כותב שנתעורר יותר רוח הלימוד מאשר בזמן העבר, ובודאי מצדו הוא מוסיף גם בענינים דיראת שמים, כיון שזקוק הוא ביותר עתה למרז"ל (ברכות ו, ב) כל אדם שיש בו יראת שמים דבריו נשמעין, וה"ה בלימוד התורה, ובפרט לרבים.
ד) מ"ש אודות כח הזכרון שלו שנדמה לו שנחלש בזמן האחרון, הנה ידוע ההנהגה בזה ללמוד במקום שלבו חפץ, וכשמרגיש שמתייגע ונחלש כח עיונו, להחליף הלימוד ללימוד סוגיא אחרת או ענין אחר, ומהסגולות בזה ללמוד משניות בעל פה, וכנ"ל מבלי לייגע, וכמ"ש וקובץ על יד ירבה, ומהנכון לדעת המאמר והדרת פני זקן בלקו"ת סוף פ' קדושים ג"כ בעל פה.
ה) להודעתו מיום הולדת שלו, - ובודאי נהג במנהגי יום הולדת, בעלי' לתורה (ואם חל ביום שאין בו קרה"ת, אזי בש"ק שלפניו), בנתינת צדקה לפני התפלה (כשחל בימות החול, ואם חל בש"ק, יו"ט, אז ביום שלפני יום הולדת), ובלימוד שיעור נוסף בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות, ושמירת שלשת השיעורים השוים לכל נפש בחומש תהלים ותניא של אותו היום, - הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שתהי' שנת הצלחה אצלו בלימוד התורה וקיום המצות בהידור.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 15th of Sivan and the one before it. Regarding what I wrote about your influence in spreading the wellsprings outward, my intention was for you to visit a yeshiva... I hoped that my encouragement in this matter would inspire you to continue these lofty activities with even greater strength and vigor. The necessity for this—not only in the aforementioned yeshiva—is very great and is also connected to fulfilling the promise of "When will the Master come? When your wellsprings will be spread outward," so that it will be brought closer. Since this is demanded from each one of us, surely the abilities and opportunities have been given to fulfill this demand, as is understood.
b) What I mentioned in my letter regarding the third line of gemilus chassadim (acts of kindness): In addition to completing the matter itself, it also relates to the content of my letter, since involvement in spreading the wellsprings outward—and generally influencing others—is itself an act of gemilus chassadim.
c) I was pleased by what you wrote that you continue giving classes at the yeshiva... Thank G-d you write that there has been a greater awakening in learning than previously, and surely on your part you are also increasing matters of fear of Heaven. This is especially necessary now for you, as our Sages say (Berachos 6b): "Anyone who has fear of Heaven—his words are heeded," and so too in Torah study, especially when teaching many.
d) Regarding what you wrote about your memory seeming weaker lately: It is known that one should study where his heart desires; when he feels weary or his analytical ability weakens, he should switch his studies to another topic or subject. Among recommended practices is learning Mishnayos by heart—as mentioned above—without overexertion. As it says: "He who gathers little by little increases." It is also proper to know by heart the discourse "VeHadarta Pnei Zaken" at the end of Parshas Kedoshim in Likkutei Torah.
e) Regarding your notification about your birthday: Surely you observed birthday customs—being called up to the Torah (and if it falls on a day without Torah reading, then on the preceding Shabbos), giving charity before prayer (if it falls on a weekday; if on Shabbos or Yom Tov, then on the day before), studying an additional lesson in both revealed Torah and Chassidus, and maintaining the three daily study portions in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya for that day. May it be G-d's will that this year be one of success for you in Torah study and mitzvah observance with excellence.
