בנועם קבלתי מכתבם מא' טבת - ר"פ מסדרי התועדות דחג הגאולה י"ט כסלו ושלפניו ושלאחריו, ונהניתי במאד ממה שכנראה התחילו להמשיך תלמידים משאר ישיבות להתועדויות אלו, ובאופן דמוסיף והולך, שהרי זהו ענינו של כל נר להאיר, ועאכו"כ של מוסד המקים תלמידי-נר-להאיר בכוונה להדליק הנרות על פתח ביתו, שתוכנה המשכה בחוץ, ולא עוד אלא דוקא באופן דמוסיף והולך. ואם בתקופה שלפנים כשהיתה התנגדות בחוגים ידועים הי' כזה עאכו"כ שתמורת התנגדות התחילה החיפוש והחקירה ודרישה לפנימיות התורה ועניני', (אף שכמה מהמחפשים אינם יודעים עדיין שאותה הם מחפשים, וע"ד פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שכשהגוף רעב ללחם, פנימיות הענין הוא - מפני שהנשמה רעבה לניצוץ האלקי, למוצא פי ה' אשר בהלחם).
מובן שעל הנ"ל נוסף גם התועלת הכי גדולה בהשתתפות כמה בע"ב בהתוועדות באוירה כזו, שגם ערכה גדול ביותר וביותר, אבל נוסף בענין הראשון - שזהו תפקיד עקרי של ישיבת תו"ת, וק"ל, וכיון שזכות הרבים מסייעתם בודאי יצליחו גם בזה, באם רק יהי' באופן דיגעת - שהרי זוהי הדרישה בכל עניני קדושה.

It was with pleasure that I received your letter from 1 Teves—regarding the organizers of the farbrengens for the festival of redemption, Yud-Tes Kislev, as well as those before and after it. I was very pleased to see that you have apparently begun to bring students from other yeshivas to these farbrengens, and in a manner of increasing and progressing. After all, this is the purpose of every candle—to illuminate; how much more so for an institution that raises students who are themselves 'candles to illuminate,' with the intent to light candles at the entrance of one's home—meaning to draw light outward—and specifically in a way that continually increases.
If in previous times, when there was opposition in certain circles, such things took place—how much more so now that instead of opposition there is a search and inquiry for the inner dimension of Torah and its matters (even though many seekers do not yet know that this is what they are searching for; as my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, would say: when the body hungers for bread, its inner meaning is that the soul hungers for the Divine spark—the 'word of G‑d'—found in bread).
It is understood that in addition to all this there is also great benefit when several laypeople participate in a farbrengen held in such an atmosphere—which itself has immense value—but additionally regarding the first matter: this is a primary mission of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim. It is clear and understood. And since the merit of the many assists you, you will surely succeed in this as well—provided it is done with effort; for this is what is required in all matters of holiness.
