זה מזמן שרציתי לכתוב להם בהמשך לביקורם כאן ושיחתנו, נוסף על הידיעות שקבלתי בינתים ע"ד מצב הבריאות וכו'. אלא חכיתי לאיזה ענין שישמש עילה לכתבי להם. והסיבה באה לידי אתמול ולכן ממהר אני במכתבי, כיון שלדעתי זהו לתועלת הרבים.
כוונתי למה שדברנו על דבר הענין שלדעתי הוא הכרח גדול, כי בהעתון שהוא בבעלותו, בהשגחה העליונה, יוקדש על כל פנים עמוד או יותר, מדי שבוע בשבוע, לעניני פ' השבוע, מצוות שזמנם בשבוע זה, בהוספת דברי הלכה למעשה בענינים האמורים, שהרי סוף סוף
המעשה
הוא העיקר. וכפי שנידבר אז בארוכה, שכיון שחלק חשוב מקוראי העתון הם שומרי דת ומצוה, ובודאי כוונת העתון היא לספק גם צרכיהם הם, מהנכון שמאורעות השבוע המובאים לקוראים ישקיפו לא רק שטח הפוליטי, כלכלי וכו', כי אם גם שטח הדתי - כמובן במסגרת המתאימה, כיון שאין תפקידו של עתון כלל וכלל להיות שולחן ערוך ופוסק בדינים שזהו שייך לרב מורה הוראה.
איני רואה צורך להכפיל מה שדברנו אז בארוכה, וביותר שכפי הרושם שנשאר אצלי אינם זקוקים לשיכנוע בזה ממישהו אחר, בהתחשב עם "גזע צור מחצבתם", הרקע המשפחתי, אבותיהם וכו'. וכרשום בזכרוני הזכרתי גם כן שאף שאיני בקי בניהול עתונות והרווחים בזה וכו', אבל בטוח אני שעל ידי זה יתוסף במספר הקוראים ואולי גם במספר המספקים מודעות וכו', אף שתקותי שלדעתם גורם זה טפל הוא בערך להעיקר - תפקידו של עתון הרוצה לספק הדרישות של קהל מגוון ומירבי, ובמיוחד ע"פ

אשר כל ישראל מאמינים בני מאמינים.
ודוקא בשנים אחרונות יש לכל האמור תוקף יותר, כיון שהולכת ומתגברת דרישת הנוער הנקרא "חילוני", בכל מקום ובפרט בארץ הקודש, לדעת מהי יהדות אמיתית, מורשת אבות, ערכי היהדות וכו', אחרי שחונכו ללא כל ידיעות בזה, לא בבית הספר ולא בבית ההורים. ואף שגם בזה הרי פשוט שאין תפקידו של עתון להיות תחליף לביה"ס, אבל המדובר הוא להודיע על המתרחש בשטח זה ולספק הסקרנות של כמה וכמה מהקוראים, וכו'.
הסיבה הנזכרת לעיל שהביאתני להזכיר כל הנ"ל היא שקבלתי אתמול מודעה גליון המצורף בזה, שבכמה נקודות הוא מתאים לההצעה שהצעתי בעת שיחתנו, שבגליון זה הוא הוכחה נוספת שכבר באה השעה בארצנו הקדושה ת"ו להדפסת עמוד כזה, וכל שכן וק"ו בעתון שלהם שעל פי השמועה הם הבעלים שלו ויכולים לקבוע הקו כפי רצונם, ה"ז צ"ל דוקא חלק (חשוב) של העתון עצמו ולא מודעה מבחוץ.
מובן שיש כמה נקודות להוסיף בדף מעין זה, נוסף על הנדפס בגליון המצורף, ובכמה נקודות גם שינויים וכו', אבל אינני נכנס בזה בפרטיות, כי אם בנוגע לעיקר הענין, ואז בודאי ימצא מר כמה וכמה מומחים אמתים בשטח דתנו האמיתית, בנוגע לפרטים.
ארשה לעצמי להוסיף עוד נקודה כללית, ובהקדם אשר באם תורתנו כולה נקראת "תורת אמת", על אחת כמה וכמה שכן הוא בנוגע למונחים שבתורה הנוגעים להלכה למעשה. ואחד המונחים הוא ענין דדברים

, שמחמירים בזה ביותר בהלכות המוסר שבתורתנו ומזהירים להשמר מזה וכו', וגם הלכות למעשה נאמרו בדבר.

הוא שאין המדובר בדברים אסורים או מאוסים, כי אם דברים שנקודתם השלילית היחידה היא שהם דברים בטלים, כלומר דברים שנידברו בשביל מטרה מסויימת וכשאין המטרה באה לפועל הרי הדברים יעשו בטלים. ובעניננו, הרי כוונתי בודאי היתה אך ורק לטובה ולא להתערב ח"ו בעסק שאינו שלי, כי אם למען כמה וכמה מקוראי העתון של מר שבודאי דורש טובתם. ועתה אך ורק בידו של מר להבטיח שלא יהיו דברי אלה בסוג של דברים בטלים.
כיון שבכל דבר בודאי ישנו חלק הטוב, הרי אף שנתאחר הדבר הרי בכגון זה כל יום ויום חשוב הוא בכ"ז וגם מזה תוכל לצמוח טובה

הידוע "קנאת סופרים תרבה חכמה", שבאם עתה תתקבל הצעתי, הרי ירבה מר בגליון שלו כהנה וכהנה בכמות וגם באיכות, ותהי' מוצדקת, במלוא מובן המלה, ההערה הבאה בשולי הגליון "נא לשמור על קדושת הדף" וכו'.
במשך הזמן היתה לי ידיעה שהוטב מצב בריאותם, ויהי רצון שגם בזה יהי' הלוך ומוסיף.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
It has been some time that I wished to write to you following your visit here and our conversation, in addition to the updates I have received meanwhile regarding your health situation, etc. However, I was waiting for a matter that would serve as a reason for my writing. That reason came to me yesterday and therefore I am hurrying with my letter, since in my opinion this is for the benefit of many.
I am referring to what we discussed regarding an issue which I consider of great necessity: that in the newspaper under your ownership—by Divine providence—at least one page or more should be dedicated each week to matters of the weekly Torah portion, mitzvos whose time falls during that week, along with practical halachic guidance on these topics, since ultimately action is most important.
As we discussed at length then: since a significant portion of your newspaper's readers are observant Jews who keep mitzvos—and surely the paper's intent is also to serve their needs—it is appropriate that the events of the week reported to readers reflect not only political or economic aspects but also religious ones—as appropriate within its framework, since it is certainly not the role of a newspaper to be a Shulchan Aruch or rule on halachic matters; that belongs to a rabbinic authority.
I see no need to repeat at length what we discussed then—especially as my impression is that you do not need convincing from anyone else about this matter, considering your distinguished lineage and family background.
If I recall correctly, I also mentioned that although I am not an expert in running newspapers or their profitability etc., I am certain that through this addition there will be an increase in readership and perhaps also in advertisers—even though I hope you consider this factor secondary compared to the main purpose: serving the diverse and broad needs of your audience. Especially according to our Sages' saying: "All Israel are believers, children of believers."
In recent years all this has become even more relevant because there is an increasing demand among youth who are called "secular"—everywhere but especially in Eretz HaKodesh—to know what authentic Judaism is, our ancestral heritage, Jewish values etc., after being raised without any knowledge of these things either at school or at home.
Even though it is clear that a newspaper cannot replace a school, nevertheless it can report on developments in this area and satisfy the curiosity of many readers.
The aforementioned reason prompting me now is that yesterday I received an advertisement (see attached issue), which in several points matches the proposal I made during our conversation. This issue serves as further proof that now is truly the time in our holy land for publishing such a page—and all the more so in your own newspaper where you are reportedly the owners and can set its direction as you wish—specifically as part of the main paper itself rather than as an external advertisement.
Of course there are several points to add or change on such a page beyond what appears in the attached issue; however, I will not go into details here but only address the main idea. Surely you will find true experts in authentic Judaism for specific details.
Allow me to add another general point: Since our entire Torah is called "Torat Emet" (the Torah of Truth), how much more so regarding terms from Torah which relate directly to practical halachah. One such term is "divrei betelim" (idle words), about which our tradition is especially strict both ethically and practically.
The nuance here is that we are not speaking about forbidden or repulsive matters but rather words whose sole negative aspect is their being idle—that is, spoken for a specific purpose which if unfulfilled renders them nullified words.
In our case: my intention was certainly only for good—not at all to interfere G‑d forbid in matters not my own—but for the benefit of many readers whom you surely wish well for. Now it rests solely with you to ensure my words do not become "idle words."
Since every matter surely contains some good—even if delayed—in such cases every day counts greatly; moreover, good may come from this delay as well: as known from "kinat sofrim tarbeh chochmah" (the jealousy among scholars increases wisdom), if now my suggestion will be accepted you will increase such content both quantitatively and qualitatively—and then fully justify placing at the bottom of each issue: "Please preserve this page's sanctity," etc.
Over time I have heard your health has improved; may it be G‑d's will that this continues ever upward.
