The Rebbe's guidance on yiras Shamayim (fear of Heaven) and love of G-d:
In daily life. True yiras Shamayim must be expressed in consistent daily actions until it becomes part of a person (IK 2570). A shul's sanctity must carry over into everyday life (IK 6316). Torah study has real impact when joined with fear of Heaven and acceptance of G-d's yoke (IK 4240), and intellectual passion for Torah should lead to genuine love of G-d (IK 4354). Serving G-d with pure, selfless love draws boundless Divine kindness (IK 7423). Material blessings are meant to be elevated into spiritual growth (IK 4234, 1573).
In education. Every educator must nurture awe and love of G-d in students, whatever subject he teaches (IK 4141, 2284). Torah education must be permeated with yiras Shamayim (IK 4454, 4266), and pleasantness in education is vital but never at the expense of core values (IK 6257). When choosing a kindergarten or yeshiva, the most important factor is its emphasis on fear of Heaven and personal growth (IK 1169, 5158). Even a shochet or a sofer needs deep yiras Shamayim along with technical skill (IK 1159, 3535, 6515).
In choices. Never compromise on yiras Shamayim or mitzvos, including in shidduchim (IK 9489, 7181). Weigh travel plans by their effect on one's spiritual growth (IK 10820). Guarding one's eyes and speech calls for personal guidance (IK 4695). A Jewish home should be founded on genuine love of G-d, Torah and one's fellow Jew (IK 1605).
