Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 19th of Teves, in which you write about your unsatisfactory spiritual state and your desire to correct it, asking for guidance in this matter.
The beginning and foundation of this work is the concept of kabbalas ol—the precedence of 'na'aseh' (fulfilling instructions) before 'nishma' (understanding with one's own intellect). This is entirely within your control, and when you resolve to act accordingly, you should turn to the elder rabbis among Anash in Jerusalem, explain your situation to them, and follow their guidance. May Hashem grant you success to do this sincerely, and then the saying of our Sages will be fulfilled for you: 'You have toiled and found.'
You surely observe the three daily study portions established by my revered father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe—Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—as is well known. At the very least, keep them from now on.
With blessing for good news,
In the name of the Rebbe Shlita,
From a copy by the Secretariat.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true spiritual improvement starts with accepting G‑d's authority even before full understanding. Seeking guidance from experienced mentors and maintaining daily Torah study are essential steps on this path.
