בנועם קבלתי מכתבם מג' סיון עם המצורפים אליו, דו"ח מלימוד של התלמידים במחלקות יומיים. ולפלא שלא נתקבל עד עתה המשך - כמו שמזכירים במכתבם - בנוגע התלמידים הלומדים אחר הצהרים...
בטח למותר להעיר על הנחיצות הכי גדולה לנצל את ימי הקיץ שהתלמידים חפשים אז מלימודים אחרים, לתוספת התעוררות והתחזקות ובפרט של יראת שמים בכל התלמידים, אף שגם בזה ישנו תירוץ מהמוכן שהתלמידים עייפים הם מלימודם כל השנה וגם נוסעים הם לחוץ לעיר וגם החמימות קשה לסבול, שבד"מ פועל זה על המרץ של התלמידים וההנהלה כו' וכו'. ואין ברצוני לחזור עוד הפעם על כל האמור לעיל, רק אדגיש שאין זה אלא תירוץ, והראי' שבכל המקומות שהחליטו ובפועל לנצל את ימי הקיץ, הצליחו בזה למרות כל הטענות הנ"ל. והצליחו עד כדי כך שלשנה הבאה לא הי' צריך שאעורר אותם עוד הפעם, כי בעצמם ראו שגם בגשמיות תועלת היא.
בברכת הצלחה בעבודתם בקדש ושזה ימשיך תוספת ברכה והצלחה לכאו"א מהם גם בעניניו הפרטיים.

I was pleased to receive your letter from the 3rd of Sivan with its enclosures, a report on the students' studies in the daily divisions. It is surprising that until now I have not received a follow-up—as you mention in your letter—regarding the students who study in the afternoons...
It is surely unnecessary to point out the utmost importance of utilizing the summer days, when students are free from other studies, for added awakening and strengthening—especially in Yiras Shamayim (awe of Heaven)—among all the students. Although there is always a ready excuse that students are tired from their studies throughout the year, travel out of town, and that it is difficult to bear the heat—which generally affects both the energy of the students and the administration, etc., etc.—I do not wish to repeat everything mentioned above. I will only emphasize that these are merely excuses. The proof: in every place where they decided and actually utilized the summer days, they succeeded despite all these claims. Their success was so great that for the following year there was no need for me to remind them again; they themselves saw that even materially it was beneficial.
With blessings for success in your holy work and that this should bring additional blessing and success to each one of you also in your personal matters.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that summer is an opportunity for spiritual growth; excuses should not prevent efforts to strengthen Yiras Shamayim among students. Past experience shows such efforts bring both spiritual and material benefit.
