Havavac"h iy"a nu"n etc. Moreinu Harav Shmuel Tzvi Doshasef
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received the information by telephone and afterwards in a letter from Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n involved with tzt"z Moreinu Harav Moshe Eliyahu Garilitzki that his health is not as it should be. When I am at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us), I will mention him for a complete recovery. My strong hope is that he himself will be able to inform me of good news regarding this.
Certainly it is unnecessary to point out that in every matter one must see a hint from Above regarding Torah and service of G‑d—especially when it is engraved in a person's heart, as the heart is the seat of the feeling of love for G‑d, etc., as it is written: "Ve'ahavta et Hashem Elokecha b'chol levavecha" (You shall love the L‑rd your G‑d with all your heart). When a Jew increases in spiritual health, he is granted increased physical health from Above.
The way to come to love Him, may He be blessed, is through contemplation in various ways, as explained in Tanya in several chapters on this topic. Therefore, it is appropriate to set a fixed time—at least several times a week—for studying Chassidus. Certainly he can discuss with Haraha"ch Garilitzki about how to arrange this study schedule.
He surely knows about the three daily lessons established by my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us): (a) Reciting Tehillim as divided according to the days of the month—every day after Shacharit; (b) Studying the weekly Torah portion with Rashi's commentary—on Sunday from the beginning of the portion until Sheini, on Monday from Sheini until Shelishi, etc.; (c) Studying Tanya as divided according to the days of the year.
Blessings for a complete recovery—awaiting good news,
M. Schneersohn
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that strengthening one's spiritual health through regular study of Chassidus and daily learning brings increased physical well-being. Setting fixed times for Torah study uplifts both body and soul.
