במענה על מכתבו, בו שואל שע"פ שמצא כתוב בספרים עשה לו טבעת כסף ועלי' חקוקים שמות קדושים, ושואל חוות דעתי אם ישא אותו על ידו בתור סגולה כו'.
הנה לפי הידוע לו הרי בסביבתו ובמקום שנמצא רק נשים לובשות טבעות, ובמילא יש בזה חשש משום לא ילבש גבר גו' וזהו נוסף על ענין קדושת השמות החקוקים בטבעת שיש להזהר בזה הרבה, הן בענין המקום שעובר דרך שם או שנכנס לשם, וכן בענין קדושת השמות עצמם כיון שנשתבשו הספרים ובפרט אותם הספרים שנדפסו בלא הסכמה כלל או בלא הסכמות מאנשים ידועים, ובמילא מכל אלו הטעמים, לדעתי לא ישא הטבעת, ולכל היותר כיון שכבר עשה מעשה ונחקקו השמות, הנה יחזיק הטבעת בחדרו בו ישן.
ובהנוגע לסגולה לח"ן, הרי ירבה באותיות התורה והתפלה, וגם יהי' חקוק במוח זכרונו איזה קאפיטלעך תהלים, איזה פרקים משניות, ואיזה פרקים תניא, אשר אז ע"פ המבואר בלקוטי תורה סוף פ' קדושים, הרי אף בשעה שאינו עובר עליהם במחשבתו, בכ"ז נמצאים הם אצלו חקוקים במוח זכרונו. והשי"ת יצליחו בלימוד תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות ביראת שמים, אשר אז לא יהי' מקום לענין הנ"ל.

In response to your letter in which you ask—based on what you found written in books—that you made for yourself a silver ring engraved with holy names, and you seek my opinion whether to wear it on your hand as a segulah, etc.
According to what is known to you, in your environment and the place where you are found, only women wear rings. Therefore, there is a concern here regarding "Lo Yilbash Gever" (a man shall not wear women's clothing), and this is in addition to the issue of the sanctity of the names engraved on the ring—which requires much caution: both regarding the places through which one passes or enters with it, and also concerning the sanctity of the names themselves. This is especially so since books have become corrupted—particularly those printed without any approbation at all or without approbations from known individuals. Therefore, for all these reasons, in my opinion you should not wear the ring. At most—since action has already been taken and the names have been engraved—you may keep the ring in your room where you sleep.
Regarding a segulah for chen (favor), increase your involvement with the letters of Torah and prayer. Also, engrave in your memory some chapters of Tehillim (Psalms), some chapters of Mishnayos (Mishnah), and some chapters of Tanya. Then—as explained in Likkutei Torah at the end of Parshas Kedoshim—even when you are not actively thinking about them, they will still be engraved in your memory.
May Hashem grant you success in learning both Nigleh (the revealed part) and Chassidus with awe of Heaven; then there will be no need for such matters as above.

The Rebbe teaches that spiritual protection and favor come through Torah study and internalizing sacred texts rather than relying on physical objects like rings engraved with holy names. Caution is urged regarding halachic propriety and respect for holiness.
