במענה על מכתבו מי"ג אלול, בו כותב אודות מצבו בלימוד התורה וביראת שמים ובמלחמת היצר וכו'.
וכבר מלתו אמורה בספר התניא, וילמוד באגרת התשובה שם ול"ג פרקים דחלק ראשון בתניא לכה"פ וכן איזה פרקים בדרך חיים, ויפגש עם צעירי אגו"ח אשר בירושלים ת"ו, ותתרבה גם ההצלחה בזה.
מהנכון ליתן לבדוק את התפילין שלו, וכן אשר ישא טלית קטן שציציותיו בדוקות, ושבכל יום חול לפני תפלת הבקר יפריש איזה פרוטות לצדקה.

In response to your letter from the 13th of Elul, in which you write about your situation in Torah study and Yiras Shamayim and in battling the yetzer hara, etc.
It is already stated in the Sefer HaTanya; you should learn in Iggeres HaTeshuvah there and at least the thirty-three chapters of the first part of Tanya as well as some chapters from Derech Chaim. You should meet with the young Aguch members who are in Jerusalem may it be rebuilt and increased success will come from this as well.
It is proper to have your tefillin checked, as well as to wear a tallis katan whose tzitzis are checked. Every weekday before morning prayers you should set aside some coins for tzedakah.
