Havav"ch iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z Moreinu HaRav Yehoshua Baruch Lavi
Shalom u'Vrachah!
It pleased me to receive regards from you through your writing in the margin of the letter from this past 27 Tishrei.
In response to your request for a blessing: your blessing is already stated in the verse, 'Retzon yera'av ya'aseh' (He fulfills the will of those who fear Him) without limitation regarding what the desire may be, provided it is truly the will of one who fears Hashem. Since your occupation is to draw awe into the Jewish people through matters of mikvaos—as explained at the end of Rambam's Laws of Mikvaos, and similarly immersion itself is a decree of Scripture, yet there is an allusion: one who directs his heart to purify his soul brings his soul into pure waters of knowledge—just as immersion physically requires one's head and entire body, even what is secondary to his body, to be covered by simple water, so too spiritually: purification from impurity caused by the sin of the Tree of Knowledge comes when one nullifies his entire being—from intellect in the head down to even the simplest faculty in the soul, which is movement in the feet—in simple water, meaning humility (see Taanis 7a) and simple poverty without cleverness. This purifies from impure ideas and brings one to awe of Hashem because humility leads to awe (end of Sotah). Therefore, sages taught that tevillah (immersion) shares letters with bitul (self-nullification), and all the more so this strengthens service leading to awe.
Without a vow, when I am at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us), I will mention you as requested.
I send regards to Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z b'emunah etc. Moreinu HaRav Ephraim Zalman shiyichyeh and with blessings for success in your sacred work.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true humility and self-nullification—like full immersion in simple water—are key to attaining awe of Hashem. Engaging others in these mitzvos draws down unlimited blessings for those whose desires align with genuine fear of G‑d.
