במענה על מכתבו עם המצורף, הסכום שנשאר מהוצאות תיקון הס"ת, שכאו"א מהמתפללים נדבו כפי כחם למען תיקון הס"ת, הנה נהניתי על אשר הי' די והותר, כי זהו סימן על טיב התענינותם והחביבות.
ובאשר בכל ענין צריך לחפש נקודה ואופן איך לחזק על ידו הרגש של יראת שמים הנמצא בכל אחד ואחת מישראל בפנימיותו. הרי גם בזה, מהנכון אשר כת"ר יסביר לכאו"א מהמשתתפים הנ"ל, את המבואר בספרים, אשר יש ששים רבוא אותיות לתורה, כנגד ששים רבוא נשמות ישראל, שהם כלל ישראל, ומזה מובן אשר כאו"א צריך לדעת, שבו הדבר תלוי, לתקן את כלל ישראל, על ידי שיעשה - בתורה ומצותי' את כל התלוי בו ביתר שאת ויתר עז, וכמו שכשרות ספר תורה תלוי' בזה, שכל אחת מהאותיות אשר בה יהיו כשרות, והידור ס"ת - בזה שכל אות שבה תהי' מהודרה.
והדרך לזה - דרך סלולה היא, חיים על פי התורה ומצותי' - פשוט כפשוטו בחיים היום יומיים.

נ"ב. כיון שהם מעות השייכות לתיקון ס"ת, וידוע הכתוב בשו"ע יו"ד (סימן ע"ר סעיף ב') שבימינו אלה הנה ספרי לימוד - זהו מעין ס"ת בימיהם, לכן מסרתי הכסף להקופה ממנה שולחים ספרי קדש בשביל חדרים והישיבות.

In response to your letter with the enclosed sum remaining from the expenses for repairing the Sefer Torah, where each of the congregants donated according to their ability for this purpose, I was pleased to hear that it was more than sufficient, as this is a sign of their genuine interest and affection.
In every matter, one should seek a point and a way to strengthen the feeling of awe of Heaven that exists within every Jew at their core. Therefore, it is appropriate that you explain to each participant what is explained in the books: there are six hundred thousand letters in the Torah corresponding to the six hundred thousand souls of Israel, which together make up Klal Yisrael. From this it is understood that each person must know that it depends on them to perfect Klal Yisrael by doing everything dependent on them in Torah and mitzvos with extra strength and vigor—just as the validity of a Sefer Torah depends on every single letter being valid, and its beauty depends on each letter being beautiful.
The path for this is clear: living life according to Torah and mitzvos—simply and plainly—in daily life.
Enclosed is an excerpt from a talk given on Shabbos Mevarchim Sivan, as well as a collection of letters from my revered father-in-law, of blessed memory, including one about bringing a Sefer Torah into the synagogue. Certainly this is timely—even though in our case it concerns repairing a Sefer Torah. It is understood that through its content you will merit many people.

P.S. Since these are funds designated for repairing a Sefer Torah—and it is known what is written in Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah (siman 270 se'if 2) that nowadays study books are like a Sefer Torah in earlier times—I have therefore given the money to the fund from which holy books are sent for cheders and yeshivos.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that every Jew has an essential role in uplifting Klal Yisrael through their personal commitment to Torah and mitzvos. Just as each letter completes a Sefer Torah, so too does each individual's effort complete our collective spiritual mission.
