במ"ש אודות הנהגתו עם פלונית תי' וכו' וכיו"ב - כבר ידועה הוראת רבותינו נשיאינו שהעיקר בכגון דא הוא הבאתם הענינים לידי פועל בדרכי נועם. אבל אין זה אומר כלל, שיש לוותר על הדברים הנוגעים ביר"ש וכיו"ב, וביחוד בשטח החינוך, שכל תנועה ושינוי נוגע לעשיריות תלמידים ותלמידות - העומדים לבנות בתים בישראל ולהעמיד הבתים באופן מתאים לחינוכם. וד"ל.
ובנוגע אליו לעצמו, כבר כתבתי מקודם, שאשרי חלקו שהשגחה עליונה העמידתו על חלק היפה, ביסוס והתפתחות מוסדות רבותינו נשיאינו במדינה... והרי הנשיא - וצדיקים בכלל - דומים לבוראם שאין באים בטרוניא עם השלוחים שלהם, ומעוררים ר"ר וממשיכים הכחות בכדי שהשלוחים יוכלו למלאות שליחותם בכי טוב, וק"ל.

We hereby acknowledge receipt of your letters from the days around the 20th of Nissan (two from there), the 1st, 8th, 11th, and 12th of Iyar.
Regarding what you wrote about your conduct with a certain woman and similar matters—it is already known from the instructions of our Rebbeim that the main thing in such cases is to bring matters into action through pleasant ways. However, this does not mean at all that one should compromise on things related to fear of Heaven and similar issues—especially in the realm of education, where every movement and change affects tens of students—boys and girls—who are destined to build Jewish homes and establish them in a manner fitting their education. This should be understood well.
Concerning yourself personally, I have already written previously that fortunate is your lot that Divine Providence has placed you in a good position—to establish and develop the institutions of our Rebbeim in your country... The Nasi—and tzaddikim in general—are like their Creator: they do not find fault with their emissaries but instead arouse abundant mercy and draw down strength so that the shluchim can fulfill their mission in the best way possible. This should be understood well.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that pleasantness is vital but never at the expense of core Torah values. In education especially, firmness is required because it shapes future generations. Shluchim are supported from Above to fulfill their mission successfully.
