I was pleased to receive your letter along with the sefer Esh Kodesh, which Divine Providence has granted you the merit to publish for the world. If our Sages greatly praised publicizing words of Torah in general, how much more so regarding these teachings of great leaders of Israel, whom thousands followed in their light and who died sanctifying G‑d's Name.

The greatness of this matter is explained in Chassidic teachings with a clear proof from the request and prayer of our master, the author, who wished to merit dying for the sanctification of His blessed Name. The fact that this request was not fulfilled is considered a punishment—even though in later years he merited writing his Shulchan Aruch, which serves as a guide for Israel until the end of all generations.

May it be G‑d's will that also through this book—following our Sages' teaching that "great is study for it leads to action"—the hearts of its readers and learners will be inspired to love and fear Hashem. These qualities branch into fulfilling all 248 positive commandments (whose root is love) and guarding all 365 prohibitions (whose root is awe), as explained by Rabbeinu HaZaken at the beginning of chapter 4 in his holy Tanya.
