Shalom u'Vrachah!

It is known from the Rambam's statement that there is a similarity between physical illness and spiritual illness (see chapter 3 of Shemoneh Perakim; Hilchot De'ot chapter 2). Just as a body weakened by hunger (especially prolonged hunger) finds it very difficult to understand wisdom and knowledge—including even the science that explains the importance and necessity of eating certain foods—especially if one is not accustomed to studying this science, so too it is with the soul. When it is weakened by a lack of fulfillment of Torah and mitzvot, which are its nourishment, etc.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that just as physical neglect leads to bodily weakness and impaired understanding, neglecting Torah and mitzvot weakens the soul, making spiritual growth more difficult. Both body and soul require proper nourishment to thrive.
