I acknowledge receipt of his pan (pidyon nefesh) for himself and his family, may they live. At an auspicious time it will be read at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzukal l'havdil ben chayim mezal ziya (may his merit protect us), and may it be G‑d's will that he will be able to report good news as requested there.

Certainly it is unnecessary to remind you of the urgent need that everyone—especially one whom Divine Providence has placed to influence youth as a mashpia or teacher—must instill in those influenced by him a spirit of pure fear of Heaven and love for Hashem, even if his official duty is to teach a specific subject and not to instill reverence and love. Surely you are already lengthy on this topic, so further elaboration is unnecessary.

My revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzukal l'havdil ben chayim mezal ziya (may his merit protect us), established three lessons that are equal for all souls: in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya. They are: (a) Reciting the daily portion of Tehillim—as divided according to the days of the month—every day after morning prayers; (b) Studying the weekly Torah portion with Rashi's commentary—on Sunday from the beginning until Sheini, on Monday from Sheini until Shlishi, etc.; (c) Studying a daily portion of Tanya—as divided here for each day of the year. It is proper that at least from now on you observe these practices.
