במענה למכתבו מכ"ב תמוז, בו כותב אפשריות שונות בהנוגע לאופן הסתדרותו בעתיד הכי קרוב ושואל דעתי בזה.
דעתי ברורה ע"פ שרואים בתכונות בני אדם, אשר דוקא בגיל שלו בשנים אלו צריך ללמוד בהתמדה ושקידה בישיבה בסביבה ספוגה יראת ה' ואהבת ה', ובסגנון חכמינו ז"ל, אם לא עכשיו אימתי, וכנ"ל רואים במוחש שהדחי' ח"ו של הנ"ל לשנה או אפילו פחות מזה, עליו יש להמליץ מאמר חכמנו ז"ל, אל תאמר לכשאפנה אשנה שמא לא תפנה, ובימינו אלה אשר רוחות בלתי רצויות נושבות בעולם וברחוב, הרי ברוב הפעמים, שמא הנ"ל קרוב לודאי, ואין להאריך בדבר המצער, ותקותי חזקה ששורותי אלה המעטות בכמות תספיקנה להעמידו על האמת על הטוב לפניו, להקדיש חדשים הבאים וכל המרבה הרי זה משובח ללימוד תורתנו תורת חיים, הנגלה והפנימיות, והובטחנו הבא לטהר מסייעין אותו וינעם לי להתבשר טוב בכל האמור.

In response to your letter from the 22nd of Tammuz, in which you write about various possibilities regarding how you will arrange your immediate future and ask my opinion on this matter. My opinion is clear: as we see in human nature, specifically at your age during these years, one must study diligently and persistently in yeshiva within an environment permeated with awe of G‑d and love of G‑d. As our Sages say: "If not now, when?" (Avot 1:14). Furthermore, it is evident that postponing this, G‑d forbid, even for a year or less, brings to mind our Sages' saying: "Do not say 'When I have leisure I will study,' lest you never have leisure" (Avot 2:4). In our times, when undesirable influences blow through the world and the street, most often—perhaps almost certainly—such postponement is dangerous. There is no need to elaborate on such a distressing matter. My strong hope is that these few lines will suffice to set you on the true and good path before you: to dedicate the coming months—and the more the better—to studying our Torah of life, both its revealed and inner dimensions. We are assured that one who comes to purify himself is assisted (Yoma 38b), and it would please me greatly to hear good news about all this.

P.S. Regarding your note that someone was not accepted immediately upon entering yeshiva: it is evident that when one speaks sincerely from the heart to explain this decision, ultimately the truth is accepted—that it is for his benefit both materially and spiritually. In any case—see Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah section 240 at its end. As our Sages say: Avot 1:14; another teaching from our Sages: Avot 2:4; and we are assured: Yoma 38b.
Summary
