Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from the 3rd of Elul, in which you write that you have been accepted as a shaliach tzibbur in the synagogue, and as is the longstanding custom of Israel—you will speak words of inspiration before them during the upcoming Days of Awe. It is understood that you have acted properly, and certainly there will be a minyan or more of Shabbos observers. You should strive to continually increase their number through words of inspiration on Rosh Hashanah, etc., in an official manner, as well as words of inspiration at every opportune time, especially throughout the Days of Awe—days and nights about which it is said: 'Dirshu Hashem b'himatzo' (Seek G‑d when He is found), bringing the luminary closer to the spark.

As for what to say—the main objective must be aligned with 'the deed is what matters.' The methods of explanation depend on the type of congregants and their character traits. In general—explain that this is beneficial not only spiritually but also materially. Even if it is not always so easily understood intellectually, it is natural that a finite intellect cannot grasp or comprehend something infinite; this is far beyond even threading an elephant through the eye of a needle.

Regarding your mention that people come to you asking for prayers for relatives, etc., and what you should do: In such opportunities it is clear that it is proper to use the occasion to encourage an increase in awe of Heaven. Certainly in the future you will continue in this way and suggest they remember at the holy resting place (the tziyun) of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nishmaso Eden; and increasing Torah and mitzvos serves as a conduit and vessel for receiving prayer.

At an auspicious time I will mention all those about whom you write at the holy resting place (the tziyun) of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe; may it be G‑d's will that you receive good news regarding all these matters.

As we approach the new year coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you and all yours—a blessing for being inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year materially and spiritually.
