בנועם קבלתי מכתבו בצירוף דו"ח מבית הספר לנערות ומפני הטרדות נתאחר עד עתה האישור.
בודאי לדכוותי' למותר להדגיש גודל האחריות המוטלת על מחנך בכלל ועל מנהל מוסד חינוך בפרט לנצל כל כשרונותיו להחדיר בתלמידים או תלמידות יראת שמים טהורה במידה הכי גדולה, וכמובן וגם פשוט באופן מעשי, כוונתי שרגש היר"ש יתבטא בהנהגה יום-יומית ובמעשה בפועל. ובהביא בחשבון אשר בתקופתנו זו כמה רוחות בלתי רצויות ובלתי מצויות מנשבות בחוץ, והשפעת הרחוב על-פי רוב חותרת תחת יסודות התורה והמסורה, נוסף על הנסיונות הרגילים בדרך החיים של הנוער, לכן אם רוצים שהתלמיד או התלמידה ישמרו על דרגא מסוימת בדרך התורה והמצוות, הרי מוכרח להעניק להם כל עוד נמצאים בין כתלי ביה"ס מידה גדולה וגדושה יותר בכדי אשר לאחרי השפעת הרחוב והחוץ תישאר אצלם לכל הפחות המידה המינימלית של ענייני קדושה וטוב באורח חייהם.
והרי גם זה מהחילוקים שבתקופתנו זו ממה שהי' בימי זקנינו ואבותיהם, אשר בימיהם ההנהגה על-פי תורה ומסורה הי' דבר פשוט, ועיקר תפקיד החדר והישיבה הי' להוסיף ידיעות בתורה ועניני', מה שאין כן עתה, שברוב המקרים על ביה"ס לחנך את התלמיד והתלמידה בעניני דתנו ותורתנו הנצחית, מתחיל מא"ב של הנהגה מתאימה וכו'.
ובבואנו מחג השבועות, זמן מתן תורתנו, מודגשת אחריות זו על-פי מאמר רבותינו ז"ל שלא ניתנה התורה אלא עד שנעשו בנינו ערבים בעדינו, וק"ל.

I was pleased to receive your letter along with the report from the girls' school, and due to disturbances, the confirmation was delayed until now.
It is surely unnecessary for me to emphasize to you the great responsibility placed upon every educator in general and especially upon a school principal—to utilize all his talents to instill in students or pupils a pure awe of Heaven (Yiras Shamayim) to the greatest degree. Obviously and simply, this must be done practically; I mean that the feeling of Yiras Shamayim should be expressed in daily conduct and actual deeds.
Considering that in our times various undesirable and unfamiliar winds blow outside, and street influence usually undermines the foundations of Torah and tradition—in addition to the usual challenges youth face—if we want students to maintain a certain level in Torah and mitzvos, it is essential that while they are still within the school's walls they be given an even greater and more abundant measure. This way, after exposure to outside influences, at least a minimal level of holiness and goodness will remain with them in their way of life.
This is also one of the differences between our times and those of our grandparents and their ancestors: In their days, living according to Torah and tradition was simple; the main role of cheder and yeshivah was to add knowledge in Torah and its subjects. Nowadays, however, in most cases it is up to the school to educate students from the very basics (Alef-Beis) of proper conduct, etc.
As we come from Shavuos—the time of the giving of our Torah—this responsibility is highlighted by our Sages' saying that "the Torah was only given once our children became guarantors for us," and this is clear.
