Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from Wednesday regarding the reasoning behind men and women sitting together without a proper partition: In such a case, since statements have already been published in the press by Agudas HaRabbanim, Agud HaRabbanim, and it seems that for some time something similar was also done by Young Israel and other rabbinic groups, you should obtain these newspaper clippings (and surely you can find out where to get them from the administration of Agudas HaRabbanim, or possibly through Rabbi Dr. Weiss at Young Israel). When you distribute these press clippings among your congregants—who can say that when they see these articles printed in English (perhaps it was in Jewish Life)—it will lighten the debate on this matter for you.

As for the idea of immediately seeking another position: besides the difficulty in finding suitable positions, even if you do find one, there is no way to know in advance whether there will not be even more painful issues there.

And regarding your own situation: here we see the truth of our Sages' words—'Anyone who flatters his friend will ultimately fall into his hands.' For when in certain matters one's inside does not match his outside—that is 'flattery,' wanting to imitate and appear specifically in such a way that outsiders will not recognize him as a student of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch. This is not because he truly recognizes this conduct as correct but rather as a form of flattery toward his environment. Ultimately, he falls into their hands; for they then argue that since the local rabbi wants to resemble his environment, why shouldn't they want to resemble theirs in their own matters?

The explanation that this is only a rabbinic matter and that there are those who permit it entirely—the ready answer is that with issues involving appearance (mar'is ayin), one must consider how it looks to others and not rely on one's own justification based on what happened elsewhere.

I also know about the excuse that most young rabbis also act this way. But: a) they too have many troubles; b) recently there has begun a movement to improve even outward appearances, even if one can find some "approval" for it. Whoever acts early in this matter brings merit to the many.

As usual, you do not mention anything about your studies in Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus; neglecting them is also somewhat an excuse for what was mentioned above.

Blessings for reducing concealments and obstacles you face and for easing your work as a chassid, as a rabbi, and as a G‑d-fearing person.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that true leadership means upholding Torah values without resorting to flattery or compromising standards to fit societal expectations. Strength comes from aligning one's actions with inner conviction and drawing on communal support through Torah study and Chassidus.
